Session 3: The Internet For Instruction
Activity 1

Two eboards have been created for use with this
project. The first eboard is for our workshop use, the second was created
to be used with your students. Lets examine the workshop eboard.
E2T2 eBoard
http://e2t2.apple.site.eboard.com
Go to this site and click on the Converstations
tab. Click the first note, Welcome to session 3. Read the
instructions and make a comment. Make a comment on the second iNote as
well.
Now go the May 5-6 tab. Investigate links on the
eBoards note
Binghamton Schools eBoard
http://binghamton.apple.site.eboard.com
Go to the student eboard, find your school and add a
note for your classes. You donÕt have to put a URL on it yet.
Activity 2: Creating an electronic
document and posting it on the web
Decide on a topic:
Choose a topic, something youÕll be doing between now
and the end of the year. Think of an Internet activity students could do
related to this topic. Next youÕll search for websites to support the
activity
Nettrekker:
Go to APDO (http://ali.apple.com/apdo) Search in
NetTrekker to find at least 5 URLs to support the activity you have in
mind. Copy each URL and the title of the webpage into a word
document. Write up directions for the activity in the word
document. Now, instead of printing the ÒworksheetÓ youÕll use a web
based teacher tool to post it for your students. On to
4teachers.org / Web Worksheet Wizard
Using the 5 URLs you found for homework, youÕll create
an electronic worksheet that gives directions to students as to what theyÕll be
doing on the Internet. When completed the activity will be posted on the
web. Students will be able to immediately access the URLs and will be
more likely to be on task.
Go to:
On the right side, scroll to the bottom until you see
Web Worksheet Wizard
Sample Web Worksheet with instructions for creating
one.
http://wizard.hprtec.org/builder/worksheet.php3?ID=62463
When your webpage is complete copy and paste the URL
into a note on the student eboard. http://binghamton.apple.site.eboard.com
Take some time to look at the other postings at the student eboard.
Everyone will be posting their project at this site so we can all learn from
their ideas.
If otherÕs have not yet finished, go back to http://4teachers.org
and investigate some of the other great tools they provide. The Project
Poster is a student tool, designed to allow students to create a web based
student project to demonstrate their learning.

Activity 3
Flash drives
Working with Flash drives. Go through the
Session 3 Internet for Instruction folder to see the resources provided
Transfer this folder to your flash drive.
REMEMBER: The drive has to be ejected before you
remove it!
Practice saving a document to the flash drive:
Open a word document and save it : File / Save as. Navigate to the drive
and save the file.
Activity 4
Fearless Learners Courageous Teachers
A Webcast with Alan November
http://ali.apple.com/presentation/novemberpreso.html
Work through the presentation at your own pace.
Use the links to try out the tasks heÕs explaining. Stop the video and
rewind a bit if you need to hear it again. This takes approx 1 hour to
complete.
NETs for Searching Activity:
Go to the Nets for Searching link below. This is
an interactive webquest that will help you learn to search more effectively for
information. ItÕs a great activity to do with students to help prepare
them to learn to filter through information.

A workshop with Annette Lamb: Technology Tools in
Teaching and Learning: Annette Lamb is well known in our field. Early on she
wrote many books that helped guide the way for educators experimenting with
technology integration. Her website is an outstanding opportunity for you
to learn the basics of using productivity tools to support your
curriculum. I hope youÕll be able to spend some time at her site before
our next session. If you have a good personal understanding of word
processing, spreadsheets and databases, jump ahead to the last link in this
section to begin planning a project. ( Secondary Level Technology Tools)
