Welcome to Dave Molloy's website, guitarist and folk musician: please take a few minutes to have a look around.
Dave was 18 years old when he first picked up a guitar, after meeting his wife Joan who was in a folk group (The Folk Peddlars, with Les Dawson and Brian Shorrock).
He quickly fell in love with the instrument and it became (besides Joan), the main love of his life.
They started to sing together almost at once, but following their marriage in 1972, and the birth of their first born son and heir Matt, kept their warblings confined to the house. It was in the mid to late 80s that they rediscovered the folk scene, visiting clubs such as The Gallows in Milnrow and Darwen Folk Club in Sunnyhurst Wood, Darwen. Their leap into the semi-professional arena came when they were invited to take over the Darwen venue when its founder, Jan Foster, followed her career to Leicestershire.
Dave continued to gig along with Nic Dow, (then presenter of The Lancashire Drift on BBC Radio Lancashire), playing at various festivals up and down the country including Stanford in the Vale, Fylde Folk Festival and Crediton. Lately he has also been a regular contributor at Saddleworth Folk Festival, and has supported Julie Felix and Gordon Giltrap at the Little Theatre, Shaw.
Due to a breakdown in health, Joan doesn’t sing with Dave any more but is a fervent supporter behind the scenes.
Dave can be found playing regularly at The Cross Keys in Uppermill on Sunday evenings, a session which is run by The Hometowners, and also he runs a folk club in Rawtenstall, to be found weekly on Thursdays at the Spring Terrace Working Mens’ Club, where all are most welcome.
