Consider Measure F, the City Council’s last-minute spoiler measure titled the "City Growth Policy."

F=Shoddy Process. With 10 weeks to openly discuss an alternative measure, three Council members (Andrisek, Molesworth, Pointer) waited until the last moment to call a “special” meeting with only 24 hours public notice. They then put a confusingly similar measure on the ballot even though not a single member of the community supported it and many spoke against it.

F=Too short to be effective. F dies after just 6 years—a virtually useless time frame given that development projects take at least that long to wend through the planning process.

F=Sprawl. Aptly named the City Growth Policy, F is set to expire just when the City completes a housing study that will fuel pressure for more growth outside the current City boundaries even though such growth is at odds with Buellton’s General Plan.

F=Poison pill. Instead of giving citizens the opportunity “to review” growth policies as promised by the Measure F ballot argument, F self-destructs after just 6 years, abolishing the right of the people to make these decisions and reinvesting sole authority in the Council to approve development that the people may not want.
