| Five brothers, James, Moses, David, John and Alexander Trimble came to America from Armagh, Ireland, somtime between 1740 and 1744. James and John settled in Augusta County. Page 178, Annals of Augusta County, Virginia. - [1] James brought to America with him a certificate of good character and qualification as a land surveyor from Sir Archibald Atkinson. Upon the organization of Augusta county, in December, 1745, he was appointed and qualified as deputy county surveyor. - [3] 24 November 1750 James Trimble and Sarah to Alexander Beggs 250 acres Buffalo Creek of James; corner Silas Hart. Teste: James Campbell, John Alison, Michael ( ?) Johnson. - [3] 14 March 1754 James Trimble, Assistant Surveyor, enters 200 acres on head of South Branch of Potomac, 200 more above the Indian Plains on the South Branch, 200 at a place called the Indian Camp, opposite a gap in the mountain on the head of the South Branch water. All these entries are above the Crab Apple Bottom. Also 400 acres on head of South Fork of Potomack joining survey of Col. Wood's grant upon Clover Creek Road. James Trimble, Assistant Surveyor, enters 200 acres on a branch that runs into the main river at or in Given's place formerly entered and gave up by Joseph Long. And a tract of 200 acres joining his own land upon a branch of Buffalo Creek that runs through Hugh Lusk's land. - [3] 18 March 1755 Joseph Kennedy to his son Wm. Kennedy, 402 acres purchased by Joseph from James Trimble, farmer, and by James from Borden on Moffett's Creek in Borden's tract; corner John Fulton; corner Alexander Logan; corner Wm. Berry. - [3] 18 August 1756 James Trimble and Sarah to Hanse Harper, ú13, 180 acres on Black Thorn, a branch of South Branch of Potomac. Lorimer, ú7.10.0, 100 acres at a place called the Oyl Trough on a branch of Black Thorne; corner Wm. Burnet. Delivered: Thos. Lorimer, May, 1760. - [3] 15 August 1759 James Trimble and Sarah to Wm. Burnet, of Pennsylvania, ú35, 450 acres called the Limestone Spring on the head of the Branches of Black Thorne, a branch of the South Branch of Potomac, through the Laurel Gap. Teste: Wm. James Trimble and Sarah to Robert Cunningham, on South Branch in Hampshire County, ú22.10, 300 acres in the Crab Apple Bottom, on a branch of South Branch of Potowmack. - [3] 17 November 1761 James Trimble and Sarah to Samuel Bright, ú7.10, 100 acres on southeast branch of Black Thorn, a branch of the South Branch of Potowmack. Delivered to James Gamble by your order, 23d June,1765. James Trimble and Sarah to Valentine Goyle, ú16, two tracts 330 acres on South Branch Potowmack above the Front Rock: 1st, containing 100 acres; 2d, containing 130 acres adjoining. Delivered: Jacob Goyle, 7th October, 1772. - [3] 28 May 1762 Entered for James Trimble, Assistant surveyor 200 acres of vacant land on the west line of his own land between him and Saml. McClure, and 100 acres upon the head of Borden's Creek joining his own land, and also 100 acres on Hugh Luoks (Snoks?) Run adjoining to his own land, and likewise 150 acres Joining McDowell s line and Saml. Moore's line towards his own land. The above entries made with me this 28th day of May, 1762--Archd. Alexander. Delivered: Capt. Peter Hull, 23d December, 1786. - [3] 19 August 1766 James Trimble, of Greenspring, and Sarah, his wife, of Augusta County, to Abraham Haplenstall, ú10.15, 140 acres on head of South Fork of Black Thorn, a branch of South Branch of Potomac, corner George Wilson's land. March Court, 1774. - [3] 19 February 1767 James Trimble, Assistant Surveyor, enters 400 acres on Bratton's Run from Dickinson's Path down the Branch, and 400 below the above, and 300 joining, and 200 adjoining another of Trimble's tract on Camp Mountain Run above Lawrence's Mill Place. - [4] 9 March 1767 Same enters 200 acres on lines of David Trimble's land, 400 acres joining the Chalk Banks, including the Ponds, 16th March, 1767. - [4] 11 August 1767 James Trimble, of Green Spring, and Sarah to Peter Holle, of Hampshire, ú15, 85 acres on the Crab Apple Fork, a branch of South Branch of Potomac; corner survey formerly made for James, but now belonging to Peter; corner Peter Holle.
