| Notes for Robert FULLER | ||||||||||||||||||||
| [GREATx13 GRANDFATHER]+ ROBERT FULLER, of Redenhall, England, who in the beginning of the seventeenth century, lived in comfortable circumstances, with his wife and some six or eight children, sons and daughters, for whom he provided amply at his death according to his will which was dated May 19, 1614, and proved May 31 of that year, the inventory being filed by his son Thomas, June 16, 1614. He names his wife, Frances; son, Thomas, "eldest;" sons, Edward and Samuel; daughters, Ann and Elizabeth; and "Mary Fuller, my daughter;" all legacies to be paid by son Thomas, and the rest of the estate divided, one-half to wife, Frances, and one-half between his four children, Edward, Ann, Elizabeth, and Mary. His grandson, John, "son of my son John" to receive his portion when of age. Wife, Frances, and son, Thomas, executors. (N. E. H. G. Reg., Vol. 55, p. 415.) - [2] [NOTE] The area of the parish of Redenhall with Harleston is 1,610 acres, with a population, in 1831, of 1,784, less than one-fourth agricultural. Part of the town lies in the parish of Mendham, which is chiefly in Suffolk; the Norfolk portion of this parish has an area of 720 acres, with a population, in 1831, of 341, one-fourth agricultural; giving a total for Harleston of 2,330 acres, with a population of 2,125. The town consists of a main street along the Yarmouth road, and a convenient market-place on the south side of the main street. The 'middle row,' between the street and the market-place, is in the hamlet of Harleston, which is part of Redenhall parish. In this part is a chapel-of-ease, a plain building. There are three dissenting places of worship in the town. The river Waveney flows at a short distance to the south; there are three bridges over it in the neighbourhood. The manufacture of bombazines is carried on to a small extent: there is a well attended corn-market on Wednesday, and two considerable fairs, at which great numbers of Scotch cattle are sold. The parish church of Redenhall is situated on an elevation a mile from the town on the road to Yarmouth. It consists of a nave with two aisles, a chancel, and a fine western tower of perpendicular character. The tower was built A.D. 1460-1520, but the body of the church in the beginning of the fourteenth century. The living is a rectory, with the chapelry of Harleston annexed, of the clear yearly value of £803. There were in 1833, in the parish of Redenhall and the Norfolk portion of Mendham parish, two infant or dame schools, with 33 to 38 children; a national day and Sunday school, partly endowed, with 90 children in the week and 134 on Sundays; two day-schools, with 40 children; and one Sunday-school with 145 children. - [3] [NOTE] A source states "While Robert would never leave England, all his sons left for the 'New World'"; however, atleast one son, John, died in Redenhall parish. It is known that two of his sons, Edward and Samuel, traveled to America aboard the Mayflower. 31 May 1614 Robert's estate was probated in Redenhall Parrish, Norfolk County, England. The following is Robert's will: Robert Fuller, of the parish of Redenhall, yeoman; will dated 19 May 1613; proved 31 May 1614, by the widow, and 16 June 1614, by the son, Thomas Fuller. To daughter, Elizabeth Fuller, forty pounds. To daughter, Mary Fuller, forty pounds, all to be paid by son, Thomas. To son, Thomas Fuller, a tenement lately built where I now dwell in Redenhall or Harleston. Residue of chattels to be divided with half to my wife, the other half among my four children, Edward, Ann, Elizabeth, and Mary Fuller. My grandson, John Fuller, son of my son, John Fuller, to be bound apprentice. Wife Frances and son Thomas Executors. William Fuller a witness. - [1] [1] - Norfolk Archdeaconry Court, Norwich, Register 1614, folio 259 [2] - http://www.jaenfield.com/genealogy/Enf_Bry/famhist/h589.html#1 [3] - http://www.oldtowns.co.uk/Norfolk/harleston.htm [ ] - Fuller Family; http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~walkersj/fuller [ ] - Fuller, From the Mayflower ... to Michigan; www.jowest.net/genealogy/jo/fuller [ ] - email; Mary & Vern Chalupsky | ||||||||||||||||||||
