Henry Smith Jost, born May 28, 1804; died April 1, 1889; 85 years old. A tinplate worker. According to the Canadian Biographical Dictionary and Des Brisays History of Lunenburg County, he was quite a prominent politician and represented Lunenburg County in the Local House for a number of years. He defeated Joseph Howe in that constituency in the year 1863. He was Lieutenant-Col. in the local militia, for many years magistrate and a prominent Mason. Married (June 7, 1829, in Lunenburg Co.) Caroline Matilda Rudolph, born ca. 1834; died March 10, 1837, of consumption; 33 years old. Their two young children, Lucy and Henry died within a short time of their mother. - [1]
