Laptops to last eight hours...

well battery life will be eight hours, hopefully the laptops will last a little longer...

In an article on BBC News:

Scientists are working on ways to ensure laptops can stay powered for an entire working day.

Building batteries from new chemical mixes could boost power significantly, say industry experts.

The changes include everything from the way chips for laptops are made, to tricks that reduce the power consumption of displays.

I am interested in battery life, as I often travel to London, leaving at 7.30am and returning at 7pm. I often also have to use the laptop in London and don't always have an opportunity to charge them during the day.

My current G4 PowerBook with a spare battery has about five to six hours.

My older VAIO SRX41P with extended battery and a spare normal gives me between eight and ten hours.

My original PowerBook often gave me five hours on a single battery, but then again it didn't have Bluetooth or Airport at that time!

The battery life of the VAIO VGN-A197XP is pretty bad, about 90-120 minutes at best!
