WDS

finally got round to extending network...

Whenever I have tried to use the Airport Setup Assistant to get my Airport Express (AX) to extend my network (rather than act as a client and join my existing wireless network) it has always said that as my Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) was not acting as a DHCP server (my ADSL Modem Router does that job) that it could not do it...

Knowing that the workaround was to temporarily get the AEBS to be a DHCP server, configure the base stations for WDS, and then change the AEBS back again. I decided today to do just that as I wanted to use the ethernet port of the AX (which is only active when part of a WDS network).

In the end, I used the Airport Admin Utility and found that I didn't need to change the AEBS and it allowed me quite happily to configure it as a WDS base station and the AX as a remote station.

So now I have a working WDS network.
