Apple introduces the iPhone
will be available in the UK from the fourth
quarter 2007...
On Tuesday (9th January) Apple launched at MacWorld
in San Francisco the iPhone.
A combined
iPod, phone and mobile internet device it will be available in the US in June
2007 and Europe in the fourth quarter.
It
has no buttons and has a touch screen
interface.
As an iPod device, it comes
with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM and can play video as well as audio.
It is a GSM phone and though it comes
with EDGE and 802.11b/g wifi, it doesn't come with 3G which means for me anyway
that it is a less attractive device than it could
be.
As a mobile internet device it runs a
slimmed down version of OS X and the Safari browser allows you to view webpages
as you would expect them to (which in my mind makes it much better than Pocket
IE or Pocket Opera).
It will also be able
to run various widgets akin to
Dashboard.
What it won't be able to do is
run third party applications as was initially thought when it was first
announced.
I really like the concept,
whether I get one will depend on cost and 3G capability.
