Sprint U270 USB EVDO does NOT work with Macs

despite what is mentioned on the Sprint website...

The Sprint website implies that their U270 USB EVDO device works with Macs, however after much testing the EVDO community indicates that it doesn't.

After additional testing we have determined that the Sprint Novatel USB U720 is NOT compatible with Mac. We have determined that in our initial tests, we were able to get the U720 to work because we previously had Verizon's VZAccess installed on our Mac first. VZAccess adds drivers that allow the Mac to recognize the U720. When we reformatted our HD and started clean, the U720 is not recognized at all, only after we install VZAccess does it work.

Sprint is in the middle of moving their product line to EVDO Rev A, but as they move forward they are leaving more and more Mac users behind!

USB EVDO (3G) devices can work with Macs as Vodafone in the UK have demonstrated with their USB device.

Useful forum thread on EVDO.
