Vodafone 3G Card WLAN
you probably have to have a
PC...
If you have a Vodafone 3G Datacard which is
not a
802.11b/g card you can still however use it to "access" wireless hotspots. The
cost of which will be billed to the card rather than you pay
upfront.
From the Vodafone
website:
Vodafone WLAN is based
on Wireless LAN technology, which is often referred to as 802.11b or 'Wi-Fi'. It
allows you to set up a high-speed wireless connection to the Internet or your
company network by using a WLAN-enabled laptop when you're at specific public
location called 'Hotspots'.
You do
need a wireless adapter and this is the crux of the matter, the Vodafone
Dashboard software installed.
However if
you have a Mac (equipped with Airport Extreme) this doesn't use the Dashboard
software, and as a result you have to pay upfront when accessing a paid for
wireless hotspot.
So there I was at
Bristol International Airport (which has no 3G coverage) with my G4 PowerBook
and finding I could not connect to the BT Openzone wireless hotspot unless I
paid upfront...
In many ways I would
switch to the Orange service which has better coverage, alas no Mac support
unless I buy the NovaMedia software (another 100
Euro).
As I have to spend a bit of time
waiting at Glasgow, maybe that has better 3G coverage...
