Pocket Internet Explorer too slow

is it the application, the connection or the processor...

PocketPCMy iPAQ has an Socket SD WiFi card, and though I can connect quite easily to my Airport network I do find browsing a bit of an issue.

Too often Pocket Internet Explorer crashes and I need to soft reset the iPAQ, or browsing is very slow.

Now when I use Pocket Internet Explorer to browse offline content (through Avantgo) it works fine, so I am not sure if the issue is the application, the connection or the processor.

My iPAQ 3900 is quite an old model compared to the current crop, but it has quite a bit of free memory and a reasonably fast processor.

It is an 802.11b connection which is slower than 802.11g, however 802.11b is much faster than my ADSL connection.

I am wondering if there is a decent (and free) alternative to Pocket Internet Explorer out there that I can use.

I am aware that some third party browsers for the PocketPC can be rotated through by ninety degrees which makes it easier to see and read web pages, the portrait format of Pocket Internet Explorer can be limiting for a lot of websites.

At least some websites are making an effort to cater for the mobile market, the BBC website is an excellent example.

Maybe I ought to do a mobile version of the iFelix Technical Pages!
