Sun - September 23, 2007GamesDay 2007enjoyed the show...
Today I was at GamesDay 2007, and yes I did take a
load of pictures (over 200) and yes I am uploading them as I
speak.
Next year I think I will use a mobile phone and Shozu so that they are uploaded as I take them... that will be different. I did enjoy the show, much more than last year. I suspect this may have been because there were lots of new Orks on show. Last year (for me anyway) I had already seen all the preview stuff, this year there was loads I hadn't seen. Here is the new Ork Trukk which will be out on the 7th January (in the UK).
Forgeworld had some nice displays, but didn't seem to have as much new and unknown stuff as they use to have in previous years (maybe they are just getting it out faster). They did though have the Reaver Titan.
Eventually you will be able to find all my photographs on the main website. Posted at 09:57 PM | | Wed - September 5, 2007Apocalypsewhat I found out eavesdropping on the
managers' briefing...
Well what a nice
surprise.
I am up in Nottingham and popped into Warhammer World to have a look round (expect a further blog post and photos about that later). So there I was in the Warhammer World shop having a conversation with the staff when they mentioned that they were about to have a managers’ briefing on Apocalypse. Guess who stayed around to listen in and I managed to get a sneak preview of the rulebook and a look inside many of the boxes of the new miniatures. Linebreaker Squadron Okay so we know this box has three Vindicators, and you may have noticed from the box art that they come with reinforced armour. What I found out today is that the box contains the chaos parts as well, so you can make up a Chaos Vindicator squadron out of the box. Imperial Guard BaneBlade I had a look inside the box, it’s a lot of plastic. You don’t get as rumoured any Chaos or Ork parts (the book has a photo of an Orky BaneBlade (Skullhamma) conversion). You do get the new “spare parts” sprue which has been seen on the web. It is a really nice model, and having now seen it in the flesh it is one big model. The crew are really nice as well. Warhammer 40000 Basing Kit This (unlike before) is not a limited edition. It's the same size as before and you get four tubs and some etched brass. You get the two tubs of slate (small and large) as you did with the previous box, two boxes of resin pieces (different to the previous box) and instead of the barbed wire, you get an etched brass sheet which has manhole covers, drains, and other nice bits and pieces. Apocalypse Book This is a really nice book, nicely laid out and lots of lovely colour photographs. I liked the four page spread of the Ork battlefield. Stompaz The ones we have seen are scratchbuilds/conversions that will not (at this time) be going into production, it was considered, but a decision was made not to. Backpack Very nice backpack with dice, rulebook and templates for £60. Templates are nice and thick as well compared to the normal templates, about quarter of an inch. Sorry no photographs, I felt that would not be fair on the guys who let me see all the stuff. As I was leaving they packed everything up and took it all away. Posted at 01:47 PM | | Sat - September 1, 2007Plastic Imperial Guard BaneBladea "bargain" at £60...
In the latest issue of White Dward (#333) we
finally find out the price of the new plastic Imperial Guard
BaneBlade.
It's £60!
It comes in a big box and as well as seven sprues (250 odd parts) you also get a chaos sprue, a traitor sprue and an Ork sprue for potential conversions (or so I've heard). I have also heard that GW shops in the UK will be getting two models around or on the 13th September. One they will be build and one to show people the parts. It actually goes on sale on the 13th October in the UK, however I suspect that we will almost certainly see the new model on sale at GamesDay at the end of September, if it isn't there on sale then I will eat my blog! Posted at 08:59 PM | | Fri - July 27, 2007Imperial Guard Baneblade in plasticcoming in October...
In White Dwarf 332 (which came out today) the big
news for me was the announcement of the new plastic Imperial Guard Super Heavy
Baneblade Tank.
This has been rumoured for years, but here it is in the pages of White Dwarf. Looks good. Three look even better! Posted at 09:33 PM | | Sat - April 28, 2007White Dwarf #329didn't think much of this month's
issue...
Got my (UK) issue of White Dwarf today (#329) and I
wasn't too impressed. In the main as it was very Warhammer and Lord of the Rings
heavy and not much WH40K.
Does this make me a WH40K fanboy, probably! Some articles were interesting, but it ain't going to last me the month. I might have to go out and buy one of those Forgeworld books! Posted at 06:49 PM | | Sun - April 22, 2007Foundation Paintsgot me box...
Yesterday Games Workshop released their new
Foundation paints, a range of pigment heavy paints which reputedly are better at
covering black undercoats then their usual
paints.
Initially they are releasing the eighteen paint range as a boxed set, with individual paints been available later. I did manage to get a box yesterday, the Games Workshop in Cribbs Causeway had something like sixty boxes, but most of them were reserved. I bought one of the few remaining boxes that weren't reserved. I have not used them yet, but the jars are smaller than the standard citadel colour jars. It will be interesting to try them out. Posted at 10:55 AM | | Tue - April 10, 2007Chaos section added...why oh why...
Against my better judgement (as I don't really like
it) I have added a Chaos
section to my Warhammer 40K miniatures
gallery.
It's a bit small, partly as I don't play or collect Chaos and partly as I don't take many pictures of Chaos! www.ifelix.co.uk/wh40kgallery/chaos Posted at 10:21 PM | | Fri - April 6, 2007Website down...sorry...

Sorry there have been no postings for the last few
days, I had a technical hitch when moving my blog to a new computer with being
unable to move the iBlog application due to problems with registering and
unregistering the new and old
Macs.
Having posted a message on the iBlog forums, I was able to get in touch with Lifli and get some more seats for my licence. Hopefully this will now mean service back to normal. Posted at 07:54 PM | | Wed - October 25, 2006Warhammer 40K Miniatures Gallerycoming along nicely...
Though I already have some 25mm galleries which
includes a lot of Warhammer 40K miniatures, I did want to try and sort them
better and include the photographs I had taken at GamesDay over the last few
years.
As a result I have been working on a new section of the website, a Warhammer 40k Miniatures Gallery. Currently it has eleven sections: Imperial Guard Imperial Navy Orks Grots Ork Speed Freeks Tyranids Space Marines Witch Hunters Daemonhunters Necrons Tau There are more photographs in some sections than others. The sections are divided into the force categories from the rules, therefore, HQ, Elites, Troops, Fast Attack and Heavy Support. Eventually there will be more sections and the navigation will be enhanced. Coming soon an Eldar section. Advertisement Posted at 01:48 PM | | Mon - September 25, 2006More on GamesDay 2006some people not happy...
I was reading the forums
on Warseer.com and it would appear that a few
people did not enjoy GamesDay 2006 as they had in previous
years.
The big criticism was that there was very little to see which hadn't been seen before and virtually no previews of miniatures and artwork from stuff which is scheduled to be released between now and GamesDay 2007. There was also complaints about the focus this year on the focus on gaming. I am not sure where I stand on this, personally I like seeing the new stuff and seeing the preview stuff, but it would seem for a lot of people the reason to go to GamesDay is to "play games". Certainly all the people playing games in this photograph seemed to be having fun!
If you went to GamesDay to see new stuff and previews, yes you would be disappointed. If you went to have fun playing games, I suspect you had a good time. There were some things which stood out for me, in particular this fantastic display of Space Wolves, which certainly blew me away.
I also had some really nice chats with people like Jez Godwin and Aly Morrison, people who were usually besieged by other gamers in previous years.
It was also nice to discuss stuff with Warwick again and talk about the new air rules.
Talking to the plastic model tooling guys was interesting, and its incredible to see to the advances in technology which should make plastic kits even better and more detailed than before.
I spent a long time talking to the Gorgon designer Daren Parrwood and what was planned for the Death Korps of Krieg, there will be quite a few conversion kits for the Korps as well as more new models and a lot of trench and siege stuff. All very Victorian Steampunk SF and World War Oneish. There were also complaints about the standard of painting in the Golden Demon, and it did seem that there were very few outstanding pieces of work to see, I personally liked this Grot tank.
I suspect that one problem is that previous years' standards were so high, it puts some of the top painters off. I am still working on the photographs and they should be up this week. Overall if you were looking for news and previews, no luck, if you were looking for gaming then you would have found it. Posted at 10:22 AM | | Sun - September 24, 2006GamesDay 2006 excellent
event...Today I was at GamesDay 2006 (and yes I did take
some photographs, three hundred and twenty-one to be
precise).
It was a really good event and I had a very enjoyable time. It seemed less frantic than in the previous two years which meant that I had an opportunity for nice chats with a lot of different people. One disappointment was the lack of previews and new stuff from either Forgeworld or the Design Studio. It use to be at GamesDay you would see cabinets of pre-release miniatures, today it seemed that the cabinets were full of miniatures you could actually go and buy. I nearly did buy a Gorgon, a fantastic model and here is the painted one that was on display.
I am hoping to post all 321 photographs over the next few days, but need to watch out for webspace and bandwidth issues. Having put a few pounds away each week I had quite a tidy sum to spend and as per usual Forgeworld got most of my money, more details soon. Overall I really enjoyed the event. Posted at 07:58 PM | | Thu - August 10, 2006Imperial Guard Medusafirst stage of a new
gallery...
As with any website, when you start you have no
idea where it is going to end up.
The image galleries when I started were in the main devoted to Epic with some historical and a bit of 25mm SF. Over time my miniatures collection and gaming has slanted towards Warhammer 40K. I have decided to follow an idea I had for the Jimbo Workbench feature and create some galleries devoted to Warhammer 40K based around the units and unit types. Therefore HQ, Elites, Troops, Fast Attack and Heavy Support. You can see this in the Orks section of my workbench feature.
The first unit gallery has now been finished, the Medusa, a Heavy Support choice for an Imperial Guard army, look at the pictures here.
Some will have been seen before here on the blog and in my battle reports, but there is now one place to see them all. There will be galleries for Imperial Guard, Orks, Space Marines, DaemonHunters, WitchHunters (and a few others based on pictures I have taken at shows). More soon. Posted at 02:45 PM | | Sun - May 28, 2006Cities of Death section added...somewhere to put all this
stuff...
With the imminent release of GW's Cities of Death I
have added a Cities of Death section to the
Blog.
In this section you can find details of my ruin building, Cityfight games and then some... Posted at 09:17 AM | | Mon - April 17, 2006New Ork Kommandosas seen at the GW
Museum...
I found some nice new pictures of the new Ork
Kommandos at warseer.com
The pictures were taken at the GW Museum.
These are really nice.
I am certainly going to buy some of them for my Ork army.
Certainly well painted and look better than the other photos I have seen. Posted at 03:49 PM | | Mon - April 3, 2006Ork Big Mekcoming soon from Games
Workshop...
In the most recent UK White Dwarf they had some
pictures of the new models they are releasing for their new summer
campaign.
One of these is a Ork Big Mek.
It will be nice to see some new Ork models. I hope this is something we will see more of, I have disliked the way that GW release whole armies now and whilst doing so ignore the other armies. I have often wondered about this strategy especially in terms of people adding to their armies. I also suppose that some people will always go out and buy the new big thing (whether they paint it is a different story). I like what GW use to do back in the 1980s when they released new miniatures every month for a range of armies rather than concentrating on two big releases like they do now. Also released this summer will be some new Ork Kommandos. Posted at 01:01 PM | | Thu - March 9, 2006Rare OOP 40K Ork and Grot on eBayif you're interested...

Andreas Katsulas, whose striking Greek visage was
often obscured by prosthetic makeup in his several sci-fi roles, died on Monday,
February 13, of lung cancer at the age of
59.
Science fiction fans know him well as the Narn ambassador "G'Kar" in Babylon 5. His numerous other TV credits include spots on Alien Nation, Max Headroom, Millennium, Diagnosis Murder, NYPD Blue, etc. Katsulas also played the recurring role of the Romulan "Commander Tomalak" in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes "The Enemy," "The Defector," "Future Imperfect" and "All Good Things..." Katsulas also had his share of movie roles, and perhaps his most famous was the notorious one-armed man "Frederick Sykes" in "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford. Of working-class Greek and American heritage, Katsulas was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and caught the acting bug at age 4. He earned his master's degree in theater from Indiana University, and performed on stage in St. Louis, New York and Boston before being cast by Michael Cimino in "The Sicilian." That started his Hollywood career, where his scowl and furrowed brow landed him mostly villainous parts, such as a ruthless mobster in Ridley Scott's "Someone to Watch Over Me," and a terrorist leader in "Executive Decision" with Kurt Russell and Steven Seagal. Katsulas is survived by his second wife, whom he married less than a year ago, and a daughter and a son from his first marriage. Funeral services are pending in his native St. Louis. This is the painted miniature which won the Golden
Demon 2005 Slayer Sword and this my slightly blurred photograph of
it.
Personally I was not a great fan of it, and I didn't really understand why it won. Then I saw this picture...
Now I understand, just look at the detail.
Yes this was a well deserved winner. Posted at 12:18 AM | | Tue - January 17, 2006Games Workshop Release Datesfirst half of 2006...
