Nice meal

at Jollys Hotel in London...

I had a meeting in London today and it was at Jollys Hotel opposite to New Scotland Yard.

I had stayed overnight and had eaten dinner at the hotel, and it was a nice meal, not overly fantastic and slightly too salty, but well constructed, put together.

The menu was as you might expect from an Italian owned hotel, very Italian. Initially I was tempted by the a la carte menu, the fillet of lamb sounded interesting, but was informed by my host that as his organisation was paying there was a £35 limit, so in the end I went for the £26.50 set menu.

I started off with seared tuna loin, which I was less impressed with than I thought I was going to be. The accompanying salad was done well, but the tuna lacked flavour.

A colleague had the swordfish carpaccio which looked a much better choice (it was from the a la carte menu).

My main course was much better, a quartered chicken in a red wine sauce with roast potatoes and asparagus. Very tender well flavoured chicken. but not many vegetables.

The sea bass with clams looked great and my colleague enthused about how nice it was.

For "desert" I took the cheese option, and got a really nice selection of Italian cheeses, served with walnuts and honey, and some preserved fruit of some kind, no consensus from the table about what it was.

Overall it was a nice meal, well presented, nice surroundings and friendly staff.
