Too much salt

who cares says Burger King

On a day when The Food Standards Agency says we are still eating too much salt it would seem that Burger King are withdrawing from a FSA scheme to reduce the amount of salt in processed foods.

I am very conscious of the amount of salt I eat (due to health issues) and wherever possible I avoid processed foods as they contains huge amounts of hidden salt. For example there is more salt in digestive biscuits per 100g then there are in some sausages or even bacon!

Processed foods often have very high salt levels often containing the recommended daily amount of salt in one portion. The salt is added to add *flavour* to cheap ingredients. Of course some people then go and add even more salt!

Burger King have withdrawn from a FSA voluntary scheme to reduce the amount of salt in processed foods. In the USA they have recently added a breakfast burger to their menu which has 5g of salt in nearly 90% of the recommended daily amount.
