Life on Mars

really enjoyed it...

Life on Mars was back on our screens on Tuesday in a brand new series.

John Simm plays a police detective who after a car accident wakes up in 1973! He finds that the policing methods he is use to often clash with those of the 1970s. There are links with his past (or is it future) and the attraction of the series in my mind is the inter-relationships between the different detectives.

The first episode of series two as well as the usual cast, had Mark Warren (he of Hustle fame) playing a dodgy casino owner who was allegedly responsible for some nasty murders and had in the future been arrested by Detective Tyler (Simm) and was awaiting trial.

If you enjoyed The Sweeney or The Professionals, then this will have you harking back to that era of television. It is beautifully made with lots of period set pieces, props, cars, buses and the Austin Allegro panda cars made me smile (the fact that they had two). Though the Ford Granada Ghia is certainly the star car.

If you haven't yet seen it, do, and if you can get series one on DVD and watch that too. Recommended.
