Interference Issues

resolved...

One problem I was having with a Windows Media Centre and as it happens with an Elgato USB device on a Mac mini was channel interference which was restricted to Freeview channels on the Channel 4 multiplex.

I thought initially it was an Media Centre Edition (MCE) issue, then getting the same problems with the Elgato eyeTV DTT on a Mac mini did make me wonder if I had a problem with the aerial.

On my eyeTV 410 on another Mac, no problems at all and was even possible to have all nine (I think there are nine) channels on the Channel 4 multiplex open at the same time.

So I thought the tuners in the MCE PC and the DTT were sensitive to poor signals and I might to either need to tweak my aerial or even put an additional aerial in the roof.

However I did discover something, when the same thing happened to our Sony digital TV, again interference on the Channel 4 multiplex, whilst everything from the BBC was fine.

I checked the back of the TV and noticed the aerial cable from the Playstation was slightly wrapped around the aerial cable, I removed the Playstation cable and success, nice clear picture.

So with the eyeTV DTT I found that the aerial cable I was using was wrapped around a power cable, some untangling later and all was working fine.

I found it weird that the interference was only affecting the Channel 4 multiplex, but moral of the story, always check that your cables aren't tangled.
