Bar One Nine


disappointing squid...

I like squid and I like fresh squid even more so.

Since buying and cooking fresh squid I have avoided battered calamari rings as much as possible as they are generally over cooked and very rubbery.

Today for lunch at Bar One Nine on the specials menu was chargrilled squid with lime and chilli. Expecting to get some nice fresh chargrilled squid, I was disappointed to find that I had (what was probably frozen squid rings) slightly charred, warmish and rubbery.

Fresh squid sliced and cooked (for about 30 seconds) with a dash of lime is an excellent dish, this one from Bar One Nine was a disappointment.

Generally they do some good stuff, but this and the paella I had once were not.

The fries were nice though, they do excellent and proper french fries.
