Pianist Dave Berkman, Drummer
Gene Jackson, Tenor
Saxophonist Tim Armacost, and Bassist
Yosuke Inoue, make up
the,”New York Standards Quartet”. The band
assembled by Tenor sax man Tim Armacost came
together in the fall of 2006. As a band the New
York based unit have developed a near telepathic
relationship playing together in a variety of
settings, including in some of the top bands in
New York City. Conceptually, the NYSQ strives to
develop its own language within the tradition of
the standard jazz repertoire.
The bond the group shares is further strengthened by a common love for Japanese culture, food, and language. The band has crisscrossed Japan four times already, in addition to completing its first American tour in March of 2008 and then again in October of 2009. The NYSQ’s first European tour took place in March of 2009, and the group plans to travel again to Japan, Europe, and America and do it’s second recording sometime in 2010.
