So, after several tries that got rained out, we finally had a nice day. She looked beautiful in her dress, and we had a lot of fun during the session! Her mom and grandmother came along, too, and they made sure she looked terrific all the time! Thank you, Alex, for such a great idea for a photo session! It's really nice for us to be able to work with lots of people and help them achieve their vision . . . and yours is definitely super creative! Here is your slideshow!

Last Friday I had the honor (and fun!) of photographing a wedding at a location I had not been to: the Riverside County Courthouse. What a beautiful building! It was built in the early 1900's and was recently completely renovated and restored to its original beauty. Here's a photo from the front (using my fisheye lens, so the perspective looks a bit warped. I could have fixed it in Photoshop, but I sort of like it as it is!)Here's a shot of the happy family arriving for the wedding. I had photographed mom and her kids in the studio last fall, so it was really nice to see them again for the wedding . . . They were surrounded by family and friends to celebrate their special day and their relationship. There was a great feeling there of love and support: You can also see some of the beauty inside the building. Beautiful woodwork all around. The guards were nervous about people with cameras (I am guessing a Homeland Security thing), so I couldn't take too many photos inside, but I got what I could!

Hopefully it will go live within a week! Up until now we've been relying on my own web building skills. But there is simply not enough time to learn the skills I need to keep the site fresh, exciting and easy for people to use. So, we are outsourcing it! One of my main New Year's resolutions this year was to quit being such a control freak and let others take on some of the load. Having someone else do the website design is an example. This will free me to do other things as the studio grows! Check back to see how progress is coming on the website!

A Great Lesson on How to Run a Business!

During a break from the Professional Photographer's Convention, I walked around Pasadena a bit, looking for some coffee. I found this great place on the corner of Colorado and Marengo. It's tiny, but that only added to the charm. The coffee there is really, really good. They have a coffee menu, and you pay not by the size of the drink, but by how many shots of espresso you order! What a novel idea! So if you order an Americano, 3 shots in a big cup is the same price as 3 shots in a small cup. This may not seem like a big thing, but it struck me as sort of a novel idea. The friendly person who helped me said there is no reason to charge customers for water to fill the cup!I guess the reason this impressed me was that this is how I try to run my photography business. It's so important to me to know that our clients receive exactly what they want and can use! When people ask about the price of our photography, I try to emphasize the VALUE of their investment. Which, when you think about it, is like saying "Get the most bang for your buck!" We are looking for good value, and we want to know that someone is actually listening to what we want to purchase! I always try to take the extra time to listen to what our clients want . . . really listen! It's a much more fun way to run a business instead of only thinking about the "bottom line" and how much something costs. My business offers a total, client-centered experience that is unique . . . kind of like the little coffee shop on the corner in Pasadena!
