Look at All Those Macs!

Yeah, well, I am a Mac junkie. I'll admit it. So while I was a mentor in Pasadena this week at the Professional Photographer's Convention, I was thrilled to be surrounded by so many Apple computers! We had 24 in all! Wow! It was a fun week, I'm back home now and looking forward to getting back in the studio on Monday. I have lots of albums to design for our wedding clients!

A Great Lesson on How to Run a Business!

During a break from the Professional Photographer's Convention, I walked around Pasadena a bit, looking for some coffee. I found this great place on the corner of Colorado and Marengo. It's tiny, but that only added to the charm. The coffee there is really, really good. They have a coffee menu, and you pay not by the size of the drink, but by how many shots of espresso you order! What a novel idea! So if you order an Americano, 3 shots in a big cup is the same price as 3 shots in a small cup. This may not seem like a big thing, but it struck me as sort of a novel idea. The friendly person who helped me said there is no reason to charge customers for water to fill the cup!

I guess the reason this impressed me was that this is how I try to run my photography business. It's so important to me to know that our clients receive exactly what they want and can use! When people ask about the price of our photography, I try to emphasize the VALUE of their investment. Which, when you think about it, is like saying "Get the most bang for your buck!" We are looking for good value, and we want to know that someone is actually listening to what we want to purchase! I always try to take the extra time to listen to what our clients want . . . really listen! It's a much more fun way to run a business instead of only thinking about the "bottom line" and how much something costs. My business offers a total, client-centered experience that is unique . . . kind of like the little coffee shop on the corner in Pasadena!

Here in Pasadena!

So this week I am in Pasadena working at the Professional Photographer's of California Convention. It's always a great time because we get to see people from all over California that we don't get to see too often. It's also great to be able to attend classes as well as teach. Photographers from California and even other states are here, and we are all learning from each other! I'll post more when I get another internet connection. Have a great day, everyone!

Free Wi-Fi!

Here's a useful website that lists free wi-fi spots throughout the United States, and even around the world. Cafes, stores, airports and other places are listed. I've got this site bookmarked on my travelin' laptop! Here's the link .

I Love Coffee!

Coffee, Black Please!

Ever since I was in college studying for finals, I have loved coffee! I grind beans every time before brewing, because it releases the best flavor at just the right time. One of the best places to get coffee in the Inland Empire area is Coffee Klatch . If you are a coffee fanatic (or even just a casual sipper) you need to check them out. All their beans are roasted locally in small batches, several times a week. Give it a try! I like the dark roasts, so French, Italian and Moca Java are some of my favorites. An added bonus . . . . their coffee shops have free wi-fi !

One of the Best Films Ever Made!

Here's Lookin' at You, Kid!

So I just finished watching Casablanca. You can get more information about Casablanca than you could possibly want by looking here . It's one of my all time favorite films. It just doesn’t get much better . . . romance, intrigue, suspense, drama, and even humor. The acting is second to none. And Bogie . . . what can I say? Yes, there is a lot in the film that is not OK by today’s standards. But the film has stood the test of time. In fact, it has itself become a piece of history, showing us what Hollywood was thinking in 1942. Oh yeah, and it’s in black and white, my favorite medium! What’s your favorite film? Send me an email and let me know!

I Love Movies!!

All sorts of movies . . . depending on my mood. I’m almost always up for watching a foreign film that helps me learn about another culture. It’s cool to get into the plot and characters, but even better to learn something I didn’t know before. I recently watched Cinema Paradiso . What a great film about the power of films!

And, the best source for reviews and info about films is The Internet Movie Database . If you are into films, bookmark this page! You will be glad you did!

Snow!!

Hard to believe, right here in sunny southern California. I guess it happens about every 50 years or so. I have a great wall calendar that shows LOTS of snow in Riverside and Redlands. The roads and sidewalks were covered! I remember when I lived in snow country that it was always exciting when it snowed during the holidays. After New Year’s Day, though, somehow the magic was gone!

But, in sunny Cali, anytime it snows it’s special. So here’s to a little January magic!

Here are two photos of snow on my truck windshield and hood! Wow!
