Aldehydes and Ketones
Aldehydes and Ketones, both of which fall under
the more general header of carbonyl compounds are now officially my bitch.
Although it took a few attempts (it is not exactly the lightest read on the
planet) i am fully confident about the reaction mechanics of the various
additions, substitutions, reductions etc that can be performed... well at least
those that are covered in the review book. So much for the morning study
session.

Tech-lust-of-the-week
So just because i went to the ATT store today to
ask the fine gentleman if they were going to be carrying either of my currently
lusted after phones in the near future i feel it is time to reveal my true love
to the world. With the recent announcements of both sony ericsson and Motorola to have new smart phones that will work on the US GSM networks (yes the fact that we cant even
use *standards* right is a friggin abomination, but don't get me started). So
the two lust worthy phones are the s/e P910 and the motorola A780 . Both are smart phones with a touch
screen etc. I was particularly fond of the P910 - right until moto unveiled the
A780. It incorporates all the expected features AND high speed data
connectivity. Given that the EDGE overlay of the ATT/Cingular network is
nearly 100% ... that is a definite YAY. But the thing that really got me was
the design of the A780.
Anyone who has used a PDA knows how easily those screens get mussed up, in fact there is an entire industry devoted to making little plastic screens to cover your little plastic screens. and with the phone being in your pocket the the likely hood of mussage is pretty high. So moto went and make a flip phone. The tender inner screen covered by the keypad and a small window - seriously - its simple, its elegant, its effective - almost makes you think that someone over there might have been doing a little work in the last few years.
Anyway - the end result of this was that i intended to go find out if (on the extremely unlikely possibility) the ATT store knew if either of these was going to be coming. He did not. He didn't even seem to know they had been announced. Which i find odd - but I'm a geek so what do i know. What he DID *know* was that "the treo with bluetooth is coming in like a few weeks". Thats interesting since the much rumored Treo Ace has not even been officially announced yet as as such is still vapor. Hmmm i wonder if he actually knew something or was just taking a cue from the frothy-mouthed rumor mongers who are all feeding off the same information and spinning different wording to create a "new source". Provided the treo DOES show up with BT and maybe a high speed data capability i may have a different decision to make - but as of now my lust and my attention are dedicated back on moto. I feel a vague reminiscence of the halcyon days of the G4 when all the world was at its feet and all they had to do was pick up the ball and run - god i hope they do it this time.
