Species: Chrysopelea paradisi

Size: snout-vent length=83 cm, mass=63 g

Video recording type: NTSC standard (30 Hz)

Playback rate: real-time

Description: J-loop takeoff, side view

Additional comments: In the curved portion of the loop, the snake's belly is facing toward you. The snake's rear body and tail are mostly stationary on the branch during the acceleratory phase of the takeoff. After becoming airborne, the snake organizes its body into an "S" shape while falling through a ballistic dive.
