Queen Charlotte Walkway

Day One Evening

Clouds lying low over the hills, but at least they can be seen. Earlier the cloud and the mist combined and it rained for about four hours. But now it is dry, almost, just a dampness in the the air. However I think there will be more rain before it clears.

I am at the Miner's Camp, where a private landowner or small farmer has a site for tents in his orchard. Some others are here, Christine and Karen, sisters from Nevada, and their friend, Scott. Also a lassy, Emily, from Ottowa. She was the only one of us not to cheat and carry a full pack she is practicising for some more strenuous South Island tramps in the next few months.

It was a good day, despite the rain, a well benched and graded track, even had a "pit stop" for a muffin and tea at Resolution Inlet. There is a small resort with a shop and some cabins. My legs felt sound, my knees didn't creak or ache, and my back improves with each passing step.
