Yesterday I spent a few hours composing this letter to my daughter who is presently living in Fulham doing her OE. I had just been watching the evening news with pictures of the appalling events in Lebanon, and later watching the news broadcast from
Democracy Now. If you haven't visited this site and listened or watched their webcasts, may I urge you to do so now. Their coverage of the war in Iraq and Lebanon gives an entirely different perspective to events than you'll find in the mainstream media. This is my letter:
Hello ,
How are things? I've sent you a
clipping of Bush assaulting Angela Merkel - I hadn't seen it before today, but perhaps you've seen it on TV. The more I think about this man, the more worried I become.
It is obvious that the Israeli attack on Lebanon comes with the full approval of Bush, in fact, it is

even possible it is his idea. We now have chaos in Afghanistan, chaos in Iraq and chaos in the Levant. And yet does Bush worry? No siree. It is all part of his master plan. Whilst America burns in the heat wave, due to global warming and 25% caused by America, whilst most of the refugees from Hurricane Katrina still languish in mobile homes all around the Union, and while he is busy getting rid of those pesky lawyers in the IRD who's job it is to challenge the tax returns of the filthy rich and the corporations, while oil depletion and skyrocketing petrol prices are threatening the world's economy, Bush is embarking on the crowning achievement in his second term. Condoleeza has already said it, what Lebanon is suffering is the "Birth Pangs" of the new order in the Middle East. ( I visited a horrible site, which I won't go to again, which showed a baby with its head blown off by an Israeli bomb - ie. the birth pangs look like this). The next phase is an attack on Syria and Iran. The hope was that the gross violation of Lebanon by Israel would get Syria or Iran more directly involved, which I am sure they would be tempted to. But they will both be aware that the slightest suggestion of any direct interference will bring down enough depleted uranium to make the deserts glow at night. Indeed it is actually quite likely America will drop its first nuclear bomb on Iran since Nagasaki.
Now you, and most reasonable people will say, but he won't do that, he is a human being, he must have some thoughts for the future, tens or hundreds of thousands of people will die, petrol prices would rocket, the world economy will burst like an over-inflated tyre, and he would have no control on subsequent events. In fact it could be the beginning of something rather bigger and very unpleasant indeed.
But this is the point I am coming to. George Bush wants this to happen. When you think about it, it can be the only explanation as to why he is the only person in the whole world who thinks he is achieving democracy in Iraq - of course, he doesn't think that, he isn't actually that stupid, but by making people think he is, he is disarming people's critical faculties. He doesn't actually care if Iraq descends into all out internecine warfare, in fact he is probably quite happy to see it, indeed there is reasonable evidence that the US is complicit in encouraging this. Similarly it can be the only reason why he is so happy to see Israel grossly over-react in Lebanon, thereby increasing further massive hatred of the US and the West among all the world's Moslems. He doesn't care for his own people in America, or the climate, or what other nations think of America.
Now why would any sane man wish to see so much more trouble in the world, particularly in the Middle East? The reason is that George Bush is not completely sane. I have said for some time that, in my clinical judgement, he has a personality disorder, of the psychopathic type. That would explain his alcoholism, drug experimentation, his lack of empathy, his strange disdain for others in distress, for instance, Cindy Sheehan, his inappropriate interactions with other people. Now if this were all he was, it wouldn't be too bad, he would make a terrible mess of things, but eventually retire from his job, leaving others to pick up the pieces.

But you will know, and he makes no secret of this, he is a born again Christian. He had tutelagefrom Billy Graham, and in particular Dr Tony Evans. This preacher makes no secret of the fact that he believes in Armageddon. Bush too believes in Armageddon. Mixed in with this belief is the importance of the Jewish race and Israel, that they will be the instruments to bring about Armageddon, when all the tribes of unbelievers overcome the hapless Israelites and Jesus descends from Heaven as an avenging angel.
"
I saw heaven open and there before me was a white horse who is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war...He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and his name is the word of God...Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the Nations. And I saw an angel standing in the sun who cried in a low voice to all the birds flying in midair--come gather together for the great supper of God, so you may eat the flesh of kings, generals and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great."
"Saddam Hussein is evil, and compared to him we are pure and good"
"The Axis of Evil"
"'There's power, wonder-working power,' in the goodness and idealism and faith of the American people,"
"To answer these attacks and rid the world of evil"
"The evil one is among us."
"We Americans have faith in ourselves ‹ but not in ourselves alone."
"God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East."
'I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.'
"I've earned capital in this election -- and I'm going to spend it.".
"We are in a conflict between good and evil. And America will call evil by its name,"
"I welcome faith to help solve the nation's deepest problems."
"I believe God wants me to run for president."
"our first successful counter-attack in our homeland in this new global war, World War III". (describing Flight 93)
"Our responsibility to history is already clear: to answer these attacks and rid the world of evil."
"Our own generation is in a long war against a determined enemy"
"Bring Them On."
"No President has ever done more for human rights than I have"
"The evil ones have roused a mighty nation, a mighty land".
Even the Christian Science Monitor, in an article about Bush's fundamentalist beliefs and their place in Bush's politics and foreign policy, says this
"An intriguing question is the extent to which Americans share the apocalyptic views of some evangelicals that we are heading into the last days of the final battle between good and evil. Polls indicate that some 40 million do" - (and among them is George Bush - my comment) . Apparently a chap called Hal Lindsey has written a book "The Late Great Planet Earth" and sold 15 million copies. He writes
" As Armageddon begins with the invasion of Israel by the Arabs and the Russian confederacy, and their consequent swift destruction, the greatest period of Jewish conversion to their true Messiah will begin." Army Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin, assigned to track down Osama bin Laden, has described himself as a warrior in the kingdom of God and invited others to join with him in fighting for the United States through repentance, prayer and the exercise of faith in God. He has praised the leadership of President Bush, whom he extolled as
"a man who prays in the Oval Office.' 'George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the United States," Boykin told an Oregon congregation.
"He was appointed by God."
It is quite evident that events are now unfolding as George Bush would like them to. There is no sense of direction, it is not needed. There is no sense of ordinary moral or ethical right and wrong. When Blair was trying to talk to Bush about the crisis in Lebanon, he treated Blair, and the subject matter, with complete disdain and disinterest. God ordains what happens and what will happen, and George Bush is the instrument of God on Earth.

We have here a man of poor intellect, with a personality disorder characterised by narcism, a sense of entitlement and lack of empathy, superimposed on a religious fundamentalism and messianic ideas, which others around him subscribe to, and finally reinforced by the realisation he is, literally, the most powerful person in the world. Would God have made him President of the United States, twice, without some higher purpose in mind; what further proof is required?
And I haven't even got around to mentioning that surrounding him in this centre of power are a select clique of far right-wing Neo-Cons, who subscribe to the "Project for the New American Century", and who's remit for American hegemony over the next one hundred years bears a distinct, but only slightly less grandiose, similarity to Hitler's "Thousand Year Reich". They, and their fellow travellers, have further steered America very successfully to that triumvirate of power, the State, the military and the large corporations, which characterises the fascist system. To many commentators, Bush is just the puppet, whilst the Neo-Cons pull the strings, but I am not quite so sure - if Bush's messianic vision is the major driving force behind the administration's policies, it seems more likely that it is in fact Bush that is pulling the strings, and all those clever brains behind him have yet to realise this.
Bush is quite simply the most dangerous man to inhabit this planet since Adolf Hitler. After the Second World War, many people wondered why someone patriotic German had not assassinated Hitler before he brought so much sorrow to the world. But you can now see why. Everything I have written is completely preposterous. Isn't it?
Take care, lots of love,
Dad xxxx
Postscript
After writing this letter, I googled "the most dangerous man since Hitler" and was surpised by the number of hits citing Bush as this man. The blog of Washington commentator Steven C Clemens, who is Senior Fellow for the New America Foundation, contains
this entry, a discussion on the character of Bush, posted August 2004. Among the people commentating on this post was a chap called Carswell. This is what he said:
Bush's "a lazy lack of curiosity about how bold ideas will play out in the real world," and his obvious failure to absorb the facts, are a factor of his being a Believer. A Believer that it is God's hand that moves events in this world; a Believer that he is guided by a "higher Father;" a Believer in the prophesy of End Times in which he plays a major role.
Thus, it matters not how bold ideas play out in the real world since it is already written in the Good Book how those bold ideas play out. Bible prophesy tells us all we need to know. George is merely an instrument in God's hand to fashion world events so that Christ's Kingdom of 1,000 years duration will be realized. George don't need no book learnin' save but that one Book that shall show him the way. His bold ideas passed unto him from the Lord will play out according to God's plan for the real world.
So Mallaby's and other's discomfort with Bush needs to be ratcheted up to "hair on fire" if they really want to reveal Bush's character.
Bush's seeming ignorance is merely a deep conviction in the literalist Evangelical form of Christianity. Or, to say it more plainly, we have a true honest to goodness religious fanatic in the most sensitive office in the world. We have a man whose beliefs are akin to that of any nefarious suicide cult that ever was, a cult whose Good Book ends with the people of the world in Total War against each other as the cult members are Saved by being Raptured up. Heavens Gate escapes to Hale Bop. Let's just say Bush is the most dangerous man since Hitler.
Now all this seems over the top, but let's take the more inflammatory statements out of the above and just ask, "Would you be happy with having the most powerful person on the planet being a fundamentalist religious zealot whose religion tells him he is lording over the End Times which is God's will.?"
Will anyone be bold enough to tell of the extreme grave peril the world is in if Bush gets elected. Probably not, because no one will risk bashing these mad religious beliefs and how Bush is very likely in their thrall. So the election will end up being up for grabs and Bush will win because God says he must, thus anything goes, and Kerry will be thoroughly whipped.

Sorry, Carswell, I should have read your posting earlier, it would have saved me a few hours work.
............................................................................
If you google "Hitler Bush" you will get lots of hits, with the obviously widely held belief that Bush is like Hitler. Cartoons of Bush morphing into Hitler, writers comparing him to Hitler, songs about Hitler and Bush. There is
one site, that has an internet site devoted to referencing such allusions. But I am not sure that it is helpful to consider Bush as another Hitler. I have only stated that he is the most dangerous man
since Hitler, not the same thing at all. The simple fact is that as a man, Hitler was greatly more accomplished than the non-entity Bush. Consider these points:
Hitler could read. Hitler was a voracious reader, with reasonably wide interests. His large library was mostly destroyed after the war, but a proportion remains and can be seen in the Library of Congress. (Link). He read history, philosphy, religion, spirituality, military strategy, and cheap German "Westerns".
Hitler could write. I am not stating he could write particularly well, I have not read Mein Kampf, the "Bible" of National Socialism, and I have no desire to do so. I understand it is not particularly readable, and is poorly organised, to say nothing of the worthlessness of the content. (Link).
Hitler could talk. In fact we know that his powers of oratory were his greatest political asset. It is doubtful if we were to listen to Hitler now, and understand what he was saying, that we could really understand this power. But it was there, and it swayed millions, his oratory powered the Second World War. (Link)
Hitler could paint. (Link). Again, not particularly well, but at a standard that many amateurs would be quite happy to achieve.
Hitler was a bona fide war hero. In the First World War, as a messanger, he earned the Iron Cross, twice, one was "First Class", rarely awarded to a NCO, and he was cited for his heroism. (Link).
Hitler made his own destiny.
Despite all these differences, the reason for many people's comparisons must be Bush's and Hitler's religious faith, or perversion of this faith - the messianic portion of their personas which make them believe in their particular destiny, with the help of their fascist co-conspirators. In Hitler's case, this destiny was to cause a feverish and relentless activity, which only diminished as the Third Reich started to collapse, it was a driving force which took the nation with him to ultimate destruction. In Bush's case it is a carelessness, insouciance and an intellectual and physical indolence; not having to work for his position, he has not had the inclination, or the need, to work to his destiny. All he has to do is now is put his finger on a button, and he has power and dominion over the world that Hitler could never have dreamt of, even in his most fevered imagination.
19/2/07 Another take on Bush, by psychologist Oliver James, writer of the book
Affluenza. An extract from his earlier book,
They F**k you up, how to survive your family. is available in this
Guardian article. This article appeared in 2003. Not that disimilar from my GP perspective of this man:
He has always rejected any kind of introspection. Everyone who knows him well says how hard he is to get to know, that he lives behind what one friend calls a "facile, personable" facade. Frum comments that, "He is relentlessly disciplined and very slow to trust. Even when his mouth seems to be smiling at you, you can feel his eyes watching you." His deepest beliefs amount to superstition. "Life takes its own turns," he says, "writes its own story and along the way we start to realise that we are not the author." God's will, not his own, explains his life.
