Weekend ramblings

First of all, a special thanks to my lovely wife, Jenny, for helping me get better late last week. Being sick is no fun, and I can be a bit of a baby. Soup, cookies and some TLC... and I'm almost as good as new. Thanks, love!

Friday night, Jenny called to say that our friends Pat and Beth had come by with pie. Oh, and wine. Not for any occasion-- they just had pie and wine and wanted to share. Man, I wish I hadn't missed that. (Darn work !) But Jenny managed to save a slice of cherry pie for me. Mmmmmm, pie.

On Saturday we finished up some Christmas shopping and went to the Lutheran Social Services Christmas party, where we played elves. See, it's an annual event for the foster kids in the area who are in the LSS system. Anyway, Jenny & I were with the Santa pictures. The kids would come in, talk to Santa, and we'd give them a gift. I like to say that we were in Santa's Wish Receiving and Order Fulfillment Department. Anyway, here are some pics from that party. It was lots of fun, and I hope we can volunteer there again next year.

Saturday night, we looked at Christmas lights in Highland Park and met up with Pat, Leila and Sarah at Spike . Sarah has a new nickname-- Sippy Cup. Pat, Leila and Sarah were enjoying a bottle of champagne in honor of Pat's birthday. Well, his birthday was back in November, but who cares? Anyway, Sarah accidentally knocked over one of the flutes, and there was shattered glass and champagne. No prob. Happens all the time.

Then our waiter comes by with glasses of water... and proceeds to lose control of the tray, dumping two or three of the glasses onto the table. Shattered glass and water all over the place. They clean that up and tell us they'll give us a free round of drinks. So we get some low-powered shot, toast to our weird fortune and take a drink. Sarah somehow manages to break this glass, too. Now, this last glass was a highball-- these are the kind you can drop on the floor and they won't break. Somehow Sarah broke one simply by setting it down on the table.

We cut her off after that.

Sunday morning was a trek to the oldest Lutheran church in Texas, Four Mile Lutheran, where my sister and niece and nephew are members. This was their annual children's play, and Caitlyn played a sheep. Ian played a wiggly kid in the pews. He's a natural! Although Cait didn't have a speaking role, she did get to sing with the rest of the kids. She's not shy. And she's not out of tune, thankfully, so she pretty much carried the melody while the rest of the kids tried to keep up. This 7-year-old has talent!

Sunday night we had dinner with Jenny's parents and brother. They're looking well. Can't wait to get together with them again Friday night.
