What is the Arts and Culture SHSM @ SHDHS?

Beginning in the 2008-09 school year, South Huron District High School was chosen by the Province of Ontario as one of only a few sites in Southwestern Ontario to offer a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in the area of Arts and Culture.

The Arts and Culture Specialist High Skills Major enables students to customize their high school experience to suit their interests and talents in the Arts, and prepare for a successful postsecondary transition to apprenticeship training, college, university, or employment, while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

The Arts and Culture major enables students to gain sector-identified preparatory credits, skills and knowledge, and make informed career decisions. These opportunities make the learning environment more engaging for students, focuses them on graduation and prepares them to pursue their career goals.

02.09.09 - More updates to correct some information and add more partnership info.

12.25.08 - Added some more information pertaining to expections for the program.

08.21.08 - Website brought online. Still some information to flush out and tweaking to do, but overall the main shell is here. Students interested should make a guidance appointment to get involved. However, if students have any questions before school starts, direct them by email to Mr. Moore.

08.20.08 - Added official letters of support from the University of Western Ontario, Apple Canada, and the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology.
