i) Xam Questions Editor: This application will let you create and manage documents of multimedia questions, to later print them (for written exams for example) or use them for computer generated exams. These questions can be organized into hierarchical collections. These collections can be organized into separate independent categories. All these are saved in a package, for easier transport / management: you'll only see one file for all this information:
Example:
Categories:
They define separate and independent sets of collections/questions. Their main purpose is to facilitate the handling of these, by packaging them in a single file.
Collections:
When you create a new document, there will be one collection by default: "All Questions" which will always contain any question created. You can have hierarchical collections but each collection is independent of it's sub-collections: a question added to a sub-collection will NOT be added to any of its parent collections.
Questions:
A question consists of:
- Summary: first 30 characters of the question text (preferences default). This text is what is shown in the questions table for reference.
- Question text: RTFD text, that is, can contain any style (font, size, bold, etc) plus you can paste or drag images into it.
- Question type: can be Multiple Choice / Multiple Choice Many / True-False / Fill the blank.
For Multiple Choice / Multiple Choice Many, the answers can be text or graphics.- Difficulty: any number you decide. Note: not used for now.
- Duration: any number you decide. Just be consistent on the units (seconds, minutes). This data will be useful when preparing an exam.
- Hint: any text you want to be displayed during the exam, to help solve the question if the user requests it.

Here is a global view of the interaction of the different components of XamSuite:

Workflow Examples:For these examples we assume a teacher/student(s) scenario:
a) one computer, Xam Questions Editor:
teacher creates questions documents. These documents are then used to print out exams, by printing directly or exporting as RTFD to a word processor, where the final editing and printing is done.
b) one computer, Xam Questions Editor + Xam:
teacher creates questions documents. Student(s) open these with Xam.
c) one computer, Xam Questions Editor + Xam Editor + Xam:teacher creates questions and exam documents. Student(s) open these exam documents with Xam.
d) many computers, Xam Questions Editor + Xam:teacher(s) create questions documents. He then sets the Xam preferences and copies these to each student computer. Student(s) open the questions documents with Xam.
e) many computers, Xam Questions Editor + Xam Editor + Xam:
teacher(s) create questions documents. He then could:
- send {Xam, questions document, exam document} to each user by email or user copies them from some server. Student(s) open the exam document with Xam.
- share the exam document in a local network so that each student opens it withXam in their own computer
