Daniel is Home!!He's back home already!!
We went down to see him again. After talking to the
nurse in the baby's ward for a while, we found out that the doctor's orders were
for Daniel to be allowed to return home as soon as his bilirubin level is below
11mg.
That created a problem, because we were under the impression that all we could do was to make a routine visit. The phone call earlier on did not indicate that we could bring him home or else we would have been better prepared. To take him home at that point meant taking him home naked other than his diapers!! We had to run around the hospital and finally found a gift shop that sold little baby clothing sets and got him something to wear. Needless to say, all that was a little oversized and the little hat that he had one threatened to cover his entire face. Anyway, we weren't about to complain since we could bring him home. The girls are excited about Daniel being home again. Baby AlbumYou can get more pictures of Daniel and the family

Just returned from our visit to see Daniel at the
hospital. He is doing well and was sleeping like (what else?) a

He seems bigger already (despite being away from us for a day) and was very peacefully snoozing despite the fact that the girls were all jumping about and making lots of noise. Both Amy and Hannah wanted to take turns holding him in their arms. He smelled nice, probably the Johnson's Baby Powder that they used on him. They will be doing another blood test tomorrow morning and Lord-willing, he'll be able to return home. It's a strange feeling coming home and feeling as if you've left something behind.... They've transferred him to a normal ward now and we are off to see him and to see if we are going to be able to have him bottle fed with mother's milk instead. Posted at 10:59 AM Tue - September 14, 2004Jaundice level now at 17We called over to the hospital and Baby Daniel's

Thanks for all the prayers. If sure feels awful to leave him there by himself. Posted at 09:28 PM Hardest Blog Entry to makeThis has got to be the most difficult blog

This has got to be the most difficult blog entry
that I will have to make.
We brought Daniel down for his medical checkup this morning and the doctor decided that he needed to do a blood test. The tests found that Daniel has a very high Jaundice level at the moment (level 21, high is 20, very high is 25) and made the recommendation that he be warded immediately to the hospital for Photo theraphy under the ultra-violet lights. There was a very heart-wrenching moment as we had to part with him at the hospital admissions and I reluctantly handed him back to Janice who brought him to the Neo-Natal ICU ward for babies. She immediately burst into tears at that point because Amy had been crying the moment she found out that we had to ward him. It was very difficult to explain to Amy why we had to give him up to the care of not only the hospital staff, but also in the care of the Lord. Moments like these remind us of how helpless we really are in this life, that we never had any control at all but rather our lives are entirely in the hands of a Sovereign, Almighty God. We took Daniel out of the hospital and they had passed him with flying colours, but it took only a day for the jaundice to show up. Irony is that we had been breastfeeding him more to ensure that he has more moisture and liquids to forestall the jaundice. However as it turns out, the combination of Daniel and his mom's blood types actually make it worse. Apparently this is a fairly well known issue, but it baffles me that the hospital did not anticipate this before discharging them. In the case of Hannah, we had to keep her there for a few more days and Janice decided to stay around in hospital while still breastfeeding her. Not that I don't trust the doctors and nursing staff, they are capable. But I trust my God more. It doesn't make it emotionally easier to part with your newly born child, but I know that at times like these, Daniel is entirely in the hands of our Great and Mighty God and that is what matters. One thing the Lord has taught me is that in times like these, the Father wants to teach us how to trust Him and to learn to Pray. I know Daniel is in there for a reason. He is otherwise healthy, in far better condition than babies who have jaundice.
I took a shot of this from outside of the ICU. Could not bare to go back in there again, knowing that he is all hooked up to the instruments, sunning himself and lying on a hard plastic tray instead of a comfortable and familiar smelling bed. Posted at 04:28 PM Mon - September 13, 2004How do you Demonstrate Love? The girls are so cute, everyone of them are trying
to be helpful and do what they can to help baby
Daniel.
Hannah decided that Daniel was feeling cold ran to her room to pick up her favourite blanket and offered to wrap up Daniel in her favourite blankie. The mark of love is when you are willing to give up the things you love best for the one you love. Do we love the things that the Lord has given us more than we love the One who has given us all things? Do we love the things of the world more than we love the Lord? That makes us an enemy who stands against the One who has bled to buy us eternal Redemption, what a way to repay that love. James 4:4
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not
that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be
a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Posted at 10:34 AM Sun - September 12, 2004Comments from everyone about the photoSeems like everyone is now telling me that Daniel
looks like me.
Well, we'll see. That's what they said about Amy but she looked somewhat different from me later on. Truth to be told, he definitely has a "boy's face" compared to the more "feminine" features of our girls. But I guess the similarity probably has more to do with the chubby cheeks and small eyes that I have (wonder if that's a hint that I need to go on a diet...). Posted at 07:17 PM Sat - September 11, 2004Birth Announcement - Daniel is here!He still wasn't totally cleaned up yet, but
15 mins after arriving into the world and breathing air for the very first time,
he was very tired and exhausted and wanted to sleep.
Finally, after much huffing and much puffing,
little Daniel Sng was born at 10:20pm on 10th Sept
2004.
Baby Stats: - Gender: Male - Weight: 3.44kg (almost 7.5lbs) - Forgot the length, but he's definitely a taller baby than both Amy and Hannah.
Daniel, immediately after birth. It was more difficult for Janice this time around than with Hannah. I guess the key difference has to do with the size of Daniel, who was definitely much bigger and heavier. Both the girls (Amy and Hannah) were under 7 lbs and Daniel is about 0.4kg heavier than Amy. Janice was happy but tired at the end of it. I didn't get to cut the umbilical cord this time around. Doc looked at me and decided not to ask me (I was watching him!) and then went ahead to cut the cord. Anyway, that's fine as I did cut it before and once is probably enough. Daniel's the first of the Sng babies that I managed to actually see come out as the other times I was right by Janice's side and didn't get a chance to see a baby who's halfway out. ![]() He still wasn't totally cleaned up yet, but 15 mins after arriving into the world and breathing air for the very first time, he was very tired and exhausted and wanted to sleep. The Morning After Some closeup shots of him after they've cleaned up him: ![]() ![]() Don't ask me who he looks like, we aren't sure ourselves! All I know is he seems to have the same kind of rounded head that his sisters have and has the same kind of little nose also. Like me, he was looking around at his new world with one eye opened and the other eye shut (same eye even). This little guy is a very curious fellow. Keeps looking around and trying to see things that are beyond the range of his eyesight. His hearing seems to be fine also. Yeah, from the sounds of it - he has good lungs and is at least capable of being as loud as his two noisy big sisters. The Whole Family
Here we are the morning after. Finally got some sleep and Jan's mom and dad brought Amy and Hannah over. They promptly jumped on the bed and wanted to stroke, kiss and smell the baby. We had a good time there on the bed reading stories as Jan had already preempted this and gave the girls new story books. They are totally thrilled with the baby and are having lots of fun. Posted at 10:58 AM Fri - September 10, 2004Time to Go!!Ok, the contractions are now 5 mins apart. We are
heading to the hospital soon. This will be my last post until the baby
arrives.
Posted at 06:43 PM Opps, maybe it's tonight. It seems like the contractions are now closer
together than expected - 10mins, 15min intervals.
At this rate, we'll be in the hospital by tonight. I wonder if we'll even have time for dinner or not. In any case, if the baby comes tomorrow, then we are going to have a Sep 11 baby to go along with our Y2K baby (Amy). Anyway, all we can do right now is to watch, pray. Going to do some reading and prayer. Will update later. Posted at 04:58 PM Bags are packed, batteries are charged, computer is locked and loaded....Trying to figure out all the gear to bring: laptop,
digital camera, mobile phone charger etc.. More complex than a military
operation.
The one thing that I'm definitely leaving behind this time around is the digital camcorder. Anyway who wants to see video footage of a screaming wife? Ok ok, Janice is actually very good, no screaming, no scratching or digging her nails into my arm. She does it so well that it's quite amazing. My batteries are charged so I'm just waiting now for the time to go. Was going to preemptively get some sleep but seems like I've forgotten all about that. Need to go before the Throne of Grace to seek the Lord's face for sure. Posted at 04:24 PM First PangsRight now, they are getting painful, but
still spaced quite far apart (20
mins).
...What that means is that we are probably going to see the arrival of Daniel somewhere later today. My personal guess is that we'll be making a trip to the hospital around 3am (again), which was the case with Amy and Hannah. Janice has been feeling those early contractions
since yesterday. Right now, they are getting painful, but still spaced quite far
apart (20 mins).
The pattern seems to be pretty consistent and familiar. What that means is that we are probably going to see the arrival of Daniel somewhere later today. My personal guess is that we'll be making a trip to the hospital around 3am (again), which was the case with Amy and Hannah. That should put us on schedule for arrival around early Sat morning around dawn onwards. Either way, not that it really matters as the Lord knows the timing and we'd rather have it God's timing than to have a doctor induce birth. Thank God he said nothing about induction this morning when Janice went for her weekly checkup. We were concerned that he would say something because he was going to be out of town as of Sunday morning to go to Batam. I was concerned that he might want to induce birth to get it over with, but that didn't happen so we're happy with that. Posted at 03:22 PM |
