Cook Islands, Part Two: The Vacation

Umm...'nuff said.

Described by Mrs. Inge Britt Kautzmann as "forced relaxation", our week in the place was fantastic. We stayed at the Manuia Beach Resort in a village outside of the main town. Our room was large and nice. It looked as if the place was new or had been recently remodeled. The restaurant was on the beach. The floor was sand and you could sit at look at the ocean while you ate and wiggle your toes in the cool sand. Occasionally one of the resident hens would come through with her chicks scampering behind.

The island of Rarotonga is smallish, about 20 miles in circumference. We could (and did) easily ride around it on the scooter we rented. The people are wonderful, friendly, and speak English. They use New Zealand currency which has a decent exchange rate with the US so it wasn't terribly expensive. We were there during their winter so the weather wasn't perfect but we did have some sunny days. We spent most of the time relaxing or cruising around the island. I did do a few dives. The water was clear but the coral wasn't in the best of shape. We dove outside the harbor and I'm sure the run-off had a lot to do with that. On our next to last day, we took a guided hike across the island through the rain forest. Gorgeous!

All and all, a great time. It was great to get Miss Inge out of the office. We got to see a new place and have tans and pictures to prove we were there.
