State of the Union?

Soon after September 11th, 2001 there was a
huge surge of flag waving. From actual flags on people's houses to stickers on
people's cars, it seemed quite patriotic.
After a few months, the flags began to
wear and tear. After a while, we could walk down any neighborhood and find at
least one flag. Take a closer look and we would likely see that it's faded or
torn. Walk around any parking lot, there's likely at least one of those cheesy
car flags. It's also completely destroyed.
This has got to stop. If you don't
care, why keep it? It'll likely happen again, just like when our favorite team
gets close to the playoffs. The flags go up, they begin to look ugly, and no one
cares.
Even the Slashdot flag image is
screwed up looking. There aren't enough stripes, and it starts with white.
That's not right at all.
I know it's
just colored cloth, but it's something that we should respect just the same. If
our lawn is in better condition than the flag we wave, at least take it
down.
