Fight Terror With Terror (And Other Idiotic Ideas)

I'm reminded of a discussion I had last year with
a person I won't name here about fighting terror with terror. Basically, when a
terrorist strikes, the mother of the terrorist gets murdered.
Sigh.
This is the same person who thinks every adult should pack a gun. I asked this
person if irresponsible pathetic husbands should pack a gun and this person told
me they should, as long as their wives pack too. What a wonderful world! I
seem to remember a Itchy and Scratchy duel like that. I am not a gun wack-o nor
am I an anti-gun wack-o. I just think we need a little
discernment.
Fighting terror with terror isn't the answer. It's the vigilante cowboy solution that America is known for. This isn't a rational group, and fighting a irrational group with irrational responses is ... well ... irrational.

The war? Yes, war is always irrational. Somebody called it mass insanity. I can compartmentalize myself in this, and maybe that makes me insane. I'm behind the war as long as it's about oil, free-trade, and democracy. If it's just about oil, that's fine with me too. False pretenses? Yeah, that bugs me, but the truth is I believed it, and I don't think our government is capable of false pretenses anyway. If they were, then we wouldn't be discussing it. They could have planted WMD if they wanted a false pretense, but they didn't. If we find WMD now, then maybe I'll consider that our government is capable of false pretenses, so they better not find any WMD.
The best civilian response to terror is no response at all. The Israeli approach is best. Great Britain has done a great job figuring this out. America has a lot to learn. Lucky for us, we have not had a lot of experience in the homeland. But I guarantee, the next time this happens in America, we are going to completely shut down and cast images of mayhem on television of the terror, just like the terrorists want.
How in the world did Great Britain figure this out and we didn't? Did WWII really effect the culture so much that it's in their DNA?
