CNN Says Bush Will Pick Clement For Supreme Court
from the won't-anyone-think-of-the-children

CNN has called Bush's pick for the new Supreme
Court Justice as Edith
Clement.
Clement
is a judge on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals based in New Orleans,
Louisiana. She was nominated to the court by President Bush in September 2001
and confirmed by the Senate two months later. She is a member of the Federalist
Society, a conservative legal organization. Her tenure as a federal judge began
in 1991 when President Bush's father nominated her to a seat on the U. S.
District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. She served as chief judge in
that district in 2001 before moving to the 5th Circuit. Born in 1948 in
Birmingham, Alabama, she graduated from the University of Alabama in 1969 and
received her law degree in 1972 from Tulane University. She clerked for a
federal judge in until 1975, when she entered private practice in New Orleans
specializing in maritime
law.[Update 21:08]: Well, CNN
was wrong. Instead, he picked Judge John Roberts Jr., a conservative whose
selection pleased Republicans and prompted Democrats to vow a thorough review in
the Senate (basically a filibuster).
