from the spinning-spinning dept.

When I was in Jr. High school, I had an opportunity to mess around with the shop class Ka-Band satellite dish. By positioning the dish at different locations in the sky, I was able to find different broadcasts. The task was to find a few and record their location using a compass and protractor nailed to the satellite dish stand. If other students could later follow my instructions and locate the same feeds, we got an A.

Back in 1995, Brian Springer compiled a bunch of satellite feeds into a documentary. These feeds were collected in and around the 1992 presidential election and were intended for used in segments on the daily news broadcasts, but Springer focused on what normally would fall on the cutting-room floor.
