Transformers
from the hasbro-start-your-engines dept.
Outside the Arc Light theater on July 2nd, 2007 in Hollywood, before the Transofrmers movie opened, Paramount brought in some of the cars from the movie like Ratchet, Bumble Bee, Iron Hide, and of course Optimus Prime. That certainly added to the anticipation. One of the producers, Tom DeSanto, was present and he made a short introduction. The news media was present in full force. I might have been on camera, but it's hard to know for sure. I wasn't interviewed or anything.

I'm not sure if I can review a movie like Transformers. I rarely see movies, and of those I see, I rarely review them. And this is the type of movie that reviews you, not that you can review it.
What I mean by that is, it is a movie that reflects the viewer's expectations and is engineered to redesign something while staying true to the elements that had drawn the viewer in the first place.
This generation is peculiar. Not that all other generations are not, but this generation is peculiar in a peculiar sort of way. We are excited about robots that change into stuff and fight. We are excited about just the name "Optimus Prime" and when he introduced himself, the following line was drowned out by cheers. That's peculiar. But hey, it's fun.
I couldn't get over how much cheering there was when the first transformer changed. It was veiled in the action, but the distinct sound was present, and that too was met with cheers. I can relate, I remember how exciting it was when I was a kid. But that excitement was brought back to the audience. I can't say I was as excited, but I did get into the movie.
In fact, I felt a lot of anxiety when the movie first opened and the first attack was about to begin. But that's about as into it I got. The rest, to me, was more of an analysis of how people can get so absorbed. It's interesting to me. It's rather neat to step back and observe.
It was fun evening, and it was neat to be in Hollywood for the opening night. I'd do it again for an equally anticipated movie, but I'm not sure what that might be.
