Doula / Birthing Support
What does a doula do? Support the mother from the waist up, offering suggestions and guidance to keep labor flowing smoothly with the birth plan. I provide massage during the birthing process, as well as pointers to fathers, partners and family members that enable them to support and comfort the mother.
Studies show that doula-assisted births experience a:
* 50% reduction in the cesarean rate
* 25% shorter labor
* 60% reduction in epidural requests
* 40% reduction in oxytocin use
* 30% reduction in analgesia use
* 40% reduction in forceps delivery
Statistics obtained from Mothering the Mother: How a Doula
Can Help You Have a Shorter, Easier and Healthier Birth, Klaus,
Kennell, and Klaus (1993).
