Prius (NHW11, 2000 Spring to 2003 Summer) regenerates at two situations, one is accel pedal-off, the other is brake pedal-on. A computer version (2002 summer?) turns on the regenerate brake when the brake pedal is slightly stepped on and brake light is on. At this situation, it seems no mechanical brake and only the regenerate brake is on. If you step on more, regenerate current increase, but mechanical brake turns on. So when you want maximum regeneration, you do not step on the brake pedal or you do step on it slightly.

Regenerate current was measured.
