the brown wedding...here comes 2007!!!

january 6th, 2007 . tampa, florida

for our first wedding of the year, we made a trip across the great u. s. of a. to florida. it was a beautiful day in tampa and believe it or not it wasn't that humid! it was so great to start the year with a couple as awesome as tyson and julia and their families. their wedding took place in a small church in dade city with the reception following at a working farm...very cool! it is always so flattering for us when a couple likes our work enough (out of all the other amazing photographers out there) to fly us across the country to capture their wedding day! thanks guys!

so tyson has a lot of snakes...a lot of snakes...like over a dozen. it's very rare for me to see something i haven't seen at a guy's prep before but cleaning snake cages was a first! it's a good thing i had a snake as a pet when i was younger....jaclyn would have hid in the closet if she was there :)

a quick prayer before the ceremony...

a quite moment in the limo...

tyson's grandfather escorted them to the reception in a horse drawn carriage...it was quite fun hauling ass on foot trying to keep up with it!

we love weddings with slideshows!

and the grand exit...complete with real BIG sparklers, a stretched rolls and lots of friends and family to send tyson and julia off!

and of course....the rings! go gators!

the reed wedding...that's a wrap!

december 31st, 2006 . la valencia hotel la jolla

our very last wedding of the year took place on the very last possible day of 2006, new years eve! we couldn't think of a better way to spend the last day of an awesome year than with an awesome couple like vicki and tim. vicki and tim are both so full of life and genuinely kind hearted people that just made us (and everyone else) want to be around them all day! to top it all of our favorite uber-cool florist annette gomez was on hand to provide the stunning decor and florals :)

the ring bearer, auto getting some last minute adjustments to his tie.

vicki and tim really wanted to be sure to allow us enough time for their pictures so they decided to see each other before the ceremony. their first sight was very moving and we practically had them to pull away from each other so we could go shoot!

da shoes...on a dumpster :)

this has got to be one of my favorite shots i've ever taken!

a great moment of vicki looking at tim while her father was giving her away :)

the rings...

vicki's daughter is on a cheer squad (that vicki coaches...who also won the west coast division!) so there was no shortage of gitty thirteen year olds running around the wedding....here they are wishing tim and vicki all the best for the video.

vicki tore up the dance floor!

the schulnik wedding

december 16th, 2006 . la jolla museum of contemporary art

we're a little late getting this one up :) this wedding was way back in last year!

matt and kim we're married on a soggy, windy, grey day at the mary star of the sea catholic church in la jolla. the whole day was very relaxed and tons of fun! there was the constant threat of rain and a few intermittent showers kept us and everyone else on their toes :)

jaclyn arrived at kim's parent's house for her prep to find this adorable little dog waiting for her.

matt getting a little love from his father.

kim looking stunning heading for the church doors where her father was waiting.

the groomsmen....

since there was a constant threat of rain, and way too much "prettiness" in la jolla we headed for the shelter of parking garage where matt actually went to high school! matt and kim photographed SO well together we could have shot all day if we didn't get kicked out by an overzealous security guard.

we shot a ton of their portraits by nothing but the xenon headlights of our audi....it was quite a challenge dealing with the ultra harsh light and very low angle of our headlights! we had to shoot everything with matt and kim sitting or laying on the ground to match the height of the lights...thanks for being such good sports guys!

and of course....a few of us actually contorting ourselves to shoot the shots....the tricky part was keeping ourselves out of the way of the light source!

we got back to the museum just in time to grab a few shots in one of the installations!

and of course, the rings!

the chan wedding

november 26th, 2006 . rancho capistrano

we're finally catching up...i can barely believe it...a blog post...within a week of the wedding!!! congratulations to us :)

anyway...michael and nellie are cool...too cool for us in fact :) their wedding took place at the gorgeous rancho capistrano in san juan capistrano. first off, rancho capistrano is an amazing location....it's so weird to be on so much beautiful free space right in the middle of overdeveloped orange county! jaclyn actually knew michael from high school, and believe it or not, we went to jaclyn's senior prom with michael and his current girlfriend! after high school we didn't keep too much contact with michael until one day earlier this year we received an email the michael had found "the one" (aka . nellie!) and wanted us to shoot their wedding. well we've got to say, this was a day that we drove home feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. not only are michael and nellie two of the sweetest most genuine people you could ever meet, but they gave us total control to shoot whatever and however we wanted which made for some AWESOME images. thanks for everything guys, we feel truly blessed to call you friends.

mmmm....lunch of champions....what better way to start your wedding day!

michael and nellie were kind enough to afford us plenty of time to shoot them before the ceremony...we started off on the hill taking advantage of the "happy thanksgiving" sign...then we moved on down the road to the elementary school on the property :)

michael and his parents before the ceremony...

michael's brother holding on to the ring...that's one way not to lose it!

the ceremony was very moving and full of emotion. the main lawn at rancho capistrano is gorgeous, they were married under the huge oak tree looking out onto the hills.

can you say EXCITED!!! michael and nellie were quite hard to keep up with!

after the ceremony we took another few minutes for some pics...

nellie used to own a floral business and now works as a fabulous wedding coordinator so we knew the details would be spot on...and boy were they ever...the reception area looked gorgeous!

toasting and roasting...

the first dance...

soul train!!!

ok, i should make a whole separate post for this but i am already pushing my luck being this good :) michael and four of his friends surprised all the guests with a spot on dance like ok go's a million ways . i swear, i don't think i've ever seen so many wedding guests crying with laughter and jumping with cheers all at the same time!!! you guys rocked it!!!

we've got to take a minute for a vent...one of the absolute lamest things left over fromo 80's weddings that for some reason planners still try to get couples to do on the wedding day is the wrap armed champagne drink thing...you've all seen. i'm sure the other photographers that read this blog could chime in here :) anyway, this time actually made for quite a funny picture :)

and a double dose of ring shot for all you addicts out there!

the torres wedding

november 11th 2006 . san jose del cabo, mexico

i think we booked tracy and tony's wedding like a million years ago and since then i don't think we've ever had more contact with a bride :) by the time we finally arrived in cabo at their rehearsal dinner (that they were kind enough to include us in) we felt like we already knew them! after an awesome dinner the rest of the three days were a blast! we truly felt like honored guests at this wedding...we were included in everything and treated just as handsomely as the other 24 guests that made the trip from all over the states to see tracy and tony tie the knot. thanks for all the hospitality guys, your kindness was above and beyond anything we could have expected!

sit back and grab something to drink...this is gonna be a big one...

oh, and there is no "formals" in this post because we did an awesome "day after" session with them...coming soon...

oh, and one more thing...we've got to give MAJOR props to tracy for creating tons and tons and tons of amazing details from scratch!!!

at the rehearsal dinner all the guys were schooled in the fine art of tequila making and consuming...apparently they are now certified :)

the ceremony was very emotional and full of laughter and tears.

after the ceremony there was as surprise mariachi band to serenade all the guests!

then there was this awesome plan to have the mariachis lead the way for all the guests through the streets of san jose del cabo over to the restaurant where the reception was to be held....the only problem was that the mariachis were the new turbo powered models and hauled ass leaving all the guests running to keep up!

more amazing details...and of course, the ring shot :)

this guy sweet talked a federali to give him his badge...only in cabo!

tony's reaction to the superman groom cake :)

the first dance.

and the very emotional impromptu father daughter dance...

tracy's brother admiring the $28 per shot tequila! what does $28 per shot tequila taste like you might ask...well after being peer pressured into taking a shot with the guys (i swear i never drink on the job unless it's coke with lime) i can tell you it is muy bueno :)

what is a better way to end an amazing celebration than with 25 shots for all the guests at once!!!

and the aftertaste...

the johnson wedding

november 4th, 2006 . the long beach museum of art

we've been looking forward to lindsay and phil's wedding all year! not only are they two of the coolest people, but we also kept bumping into them at weddings this year :) lindsay is actually the sister of one of our favorite bride's from 2005, lauren watson, so it was great to be back with the amazing watson family for another great party! their wedding was held at the amazing long beach museum of art looking over the ocean. the ceremony was held after sunset in a gorgeous tent that was totally decked out! all in all, another wonderful day, with a wonderful couple, wonderful families and friends, and a wonderful location to boot....we love our job :)

grandma getting the hairspray :)

lauren helping lindsay with her gorgeous necklace with mom looking on....so sweet!

over at the long beach hyatt phil was getting plenty of help as well...

for some reason we found this funny...

how's this for a first sight reaction!?!?

a cool shot jaclyn grabbed of the empty wine bottles...apparently the wine was imported directly from spain which everyone said was fantastic....we stuck with our usual regimen of coke with lime though :)

lindsay and phil left pairs of maracas on every table setting for a VERY loud and VERY exciting grand entrance!

beyond all the amazing things about this wedding, it was extra special for us because three of our previous couples were in attendance! jeff and kyla who were married this past september, chrisitne and alan this past february, and of course (how this whole thing started) lauren and chris from june 2005. we truly feel blessed to have played a small part in each of these fantastic couple's lives together. thanks for everything guys...we hope to see you at many more joyful events in the future!!!

the vanrhein wedding

october 22nd, 2006 . the paramour estate, los angeles

ok, we are pretty behind on blogging...so to make up for it, this post is going to be a jumbo!

for those of you that have been following our blog for a while, you might remember the very moving back story of karen and erik...you can read a bit and see their engagement session by clicking here.

needless to say, we knew we were in for something truly special when we arrived for karen and erik's wedding day. this truly was a monumental wedding, we truly honestly feel very blessed to have been a part of it. since there is just so much to say about this wedding, i'm going to let the pictures do the talking for this post...

karen was the queen of beautiful details...check out here awesome miu miu flats!

erik having one last power meal before the wedding....nothing like cupcakes to get you in the mood!

their first sight was so moving, they both were so totally blown away by each other!

after their first sight, we had a few minutes to tromp around the paramor shooting....i don't think words can describe how unbelievable this place is!

for a little twist on things...after the ceremony, karen and erik circled all their guests throwing flowers on them! awesome :)

karen's parents :)

during the cocktail hour, the guests were surprised with a traditional chinese lion dance! ok, so i like to think i'm kinda a man, but being cornered against the wall with just a fisheye lens, banging drums and a huge ass lion head in your face is kinda freaky!

so we don't usually post many details from weddings but there were just so darn many amazingly beautiful details at this wedding...

and of course....the rings...held by the giant buddha statue in foyer :)

erik's ring was brushed metal on the outside with hammered gold lined on the inside...it was sick!!!

some of the guest's reactions upon karen and erik's grand entrance...these beaming faces were the story of the day...i don't think anyone could look at them without smiling or crying.

after all the cheers subsided from the entrance, karen and erik toasted all their guests with many thanks for standing by them through the roughest situation any couple could imagine...needless to say, the cheers quickly turned into nearly two hundred people with wet eyes.

then the party really broke out!

the mini dessert bar...yummy....

and of course, the photo booth!

speaking of the photo booth...you know we always have to join in on the fun :) the second one we crammed into the booth with karen and the uber-faboulous super coordinator, angel of events of love and splendor...what fun!

the rogers wedding

october 21st, 2006 . the green parrot cafe

well i think we are officially behind on blogging...stay tuned for lots of new stuff...

anyway....diana and gregg's wedding was an absolute joy to be a part of. the whole day was casual and relaxed which is always a nice change of pace for us :) the whole affair ran smoothly thanks to kimberly bradford coordinating the event. after an intimate ceremony in the courtyard we headed out for some fun formals on the streets of santa ana and diana and gregg were instant naturals in front of the camera...they just jumped right into "loving it up" and just let us do our thing, yay! the reception was beautifully decorated and mike from carcano dj kept the party rocking all night! i should also mention, diana and gregg know how to party....they were both dancing harder than just about any couple we have seen this year!

ok, on to the pics....the choos.

gregg and his brother were so fun to hang out with...i think they're still little boys at heart :) his brother was his best man so when i took them aside to do a quick set of pictures i told them to just have a laugh together and they broke out in paper, rock, scissors!

all the guys were glued to their cell phones checking the UCLA / notre dame football game...

the paul . king wedding

october 14th, 2006 . skytop lodge . the poconos, pennsylvannia

so here it is....the whole reason for our little trip over to the east coast!

wow, wow, wow what a wedding! we were soooo excited to shoot steve and kellie's wedding. first off, the skytop lodge is just insanely drop dead gorgeous. the fall leaves were in full of color and the site of it all was breathtaking....here in southern california we have two types of trees, green ones and dead ones. neither nate or i had ever been to the east coast before so what better way to experience it than shooting a wedding? the weather was quite a bit different for us so. cal weather-snobs but everyone had a wonderful time in the 40-degree temperatures and gushing winds. we were so pleased to find that steve and kellie are so cool...and soooooo in love! the chilly weather didn't keep them from smiling all day long and enjoying every single moment together.

it's official a very vera wang gown!

the bridemaids...accompanied by the one and only roger king.

i love this shot of steve and kellie right after their first sight.

since kellie and steve saw each other before the ceremony we had plenty of time to drive around the grounds and create some awesome images of the two of them!

how's that for a backdrop for a wedding!?!?

the skies finally broke for a few minutes for the ceremony to provide some much needed sun!

too much ring-pop...(i love how you can see the drool down the middle of her dress!)

the band was totally rockin' and everyone was one the dance floor all night!

and lastly, the surprise firework show that started as kellie and paul were cutting their cake surrounded by all their guests waving sparklers!!! it was like a million fire hazards all in one...definitely not something we could do here in california :)

and one more for kicks...while we were shooting kellie and steve's pictures....we needed some without kellie's wrap so i graciously decided to rock the fashion...and keep neck warm at the same time :) it's a good thing we were out on a backroad with no one around because i looked like an idiot!

the rehearsal

skytop lodge . pennsylvannia

so the day before kellie and steve's wedding we went to the rehearsal dinner aka "the roasting and toasting of kellie and steve". this was a great experience because we got to meet all of their closest family and friends before the big day. lots of good food, great friends, wine galore, and a bonfire...everything needed for a perfect fall evening.

so this is where we got to go (it's soooo pretty!!!)

smores!

kellie's sister jessie had a baby ten days before the wedding. he was soooo adorable and tiny! jessie and her husband whitney are actually awesome photographers from georgia so it was nice to have someone to talk shop with :) this other little girl was just cute as a button.

october 7th . orfilia winery

just another beautiful southern california day! juliana and george had a beautiful intimate affair at the orfilia winery in escondido. juliana works for a catering company so we knew the details would all be top notch and she didn't dissapoint! we had such a blast with them and their wild bridal party...it was so easy to shoot them because they we always cracking themselves up! this was actually our first wedding at a winery so we had lots of fun exploring the grounds....on a side note we found out that the barrel room smells horrible :)

first off, the rings....feeling lucky?

i thought this was a really funny find on juliana and george's coffee table :)

september 30th 2006 . la valencia , la jolla

wow wow wow...katy and ben's wedding was a major love-fest! it's not every day you find a couple like this that are so over the top into each other...it sure makes the pictures easy...we just hang on for the ride :) their wedding took place at the la valencia hotel in downtown la jolla on the perfect southern california day. to top everything off, our favorite florist annette gomez was on hand to deck out all the decor....she truly outdid herself on this one!!!

without further delay....here are some of our favorites from the day...

september 24, 2006 . the hotel del . coronado

on sunday, we headed out to coronado for lindsay and gary's wedding. the del is full of so much history for both of their families so it was the perfect place for the two of them to tie the knot. the day couldn't have been more beautiful and victoria of coronado weddings made the whole event go perfectly smooth. lindsay and gary were so great to be around and the del is...well, the del! (in other words gorgeous ;) )

lindsay's nephew was hiding in the closet while she put on her dress.

we found some awesome blue trash cans (aka graphical elements) and a heater graveyard .

september 23, 2006 . leo carrillo ranch

monet and tyler's wedding was such a happy day! leo carrillo ranch is an awesome place for a wedding...we actually shot the san diego style weddings magazine fashion shoot there a few months ago. when we shot their engagement session a while back, we knew we would have no problem on their wedding day. they are just so into each other and make each other laugh so easily....and they are just sooo much fun! all of the guests were so happy for them and the entire day was so laid back and relaxed. just an awesome blossom day!!!

monet's dad has an amazing restored chevelle that was supposed to take monet from the house to the ceremony but it decided to not work so they took the super cool woody instead!

tyler is a dj so what better place for a ring shot?

how cute is she?!?!?

september 9th, 2006 . los coyotes country club

we knew mike and kristine would be a blast to be around for their wedding day...and they were! the day started off in cerritos for their preparations, and then we trucked the whole bridal party over to the new cerritos library in their stretched hummer limo for some pictures. after a whirlwind photography session we all headed over to the country club for the wedding. after an emotional ceremony framed by a beautiful sunset the party really got started! little did we know that mike and kristine's friends are party animals! the liquor was flowing and the dance floor was hopping all night!

i liked the irony of the tiffanys rings amongst pocket change :)

the than wedding

september 3rd, 2006 . the ritz carlton pasadena

day two of our double header weekend found us with our second all star couple we've been aching to shoot ever since their awesome engagement session! words cannot truly describe just how insanely cool mike and jonalyn are....so i am not going to even try. their wedding took place on the main lawn at the ritz with 550 family and friends circled around them...it was one of the best sermons we've heard in a long time and there were MANY wet eyes as we looked around. since their photographers were so important to them, mike and jonalyn decided to see each other before the ceremony so we could have the optimal amount of time to create some amazing images. the irony to that was there were three huge weddings going on that day (not to mention 550 of their guests all arriving early and hanging out in all the palces we had scoped out to shoot!) so after a very brief stint of shooting in the lobby we were forced to retreat upstairs to the rooms. we shot about 75% of their formals in a 15x15 room where the elevators were on the 6th floor! we love a good challenge :)

ok, on to the pics! i am feeling very square for this wedding....

note to brides...this is how you should look when all your girls are helping you into your dress! :)

and for a stark contrast....here is what is usually happening at the guys prep at the same time...playing video games....

farting...

can you tell mike is happy to see his girl at their first sight?!!?

you know the sermon is good when guests are taking notes!!!

ok, i feel like a total wuss admitting this but i actually teared up when i was working on this photo...such an awesome moment during the ceremony!

rolling with the punches....sometimes that "magic hour" you had scheduled to do your bridal party pictures during gets eaten up by other things and you're stuck shooting the whole group in the dark on the half broken down stage / altar thingy...DEAL WITH IT!

mike's dad's toast brought down the house....note to dads...lots of talk of sex and babies works very well :)

and for all you ring shot fans....here's a sweet one for you :)

the benson wedding

september 2nd 2006 . the crown plaza in ventura

two weekends ago was one of the weekends we were looking forward to most this year...we had two weddings with two of our favorite couples this year...and neither of them disappointed! first up was jeff and kyla's wedding all the way up in ventura. their wedding took place right on the sand of the main beach, with their reception following in the bayview room on the top of the crown plaza. their whole day was totally relaxed and SO much fun!

jeff's great friend lauren was a "groomslady" so she was their through all the prep which was so cool! even cooler because we shot her and her husband chris' wedding last june...it was so nice to have a familiar face in the room :)

i really loved this shot of jeff's grandmas.

i am thoroughly convinced that the only thing keeping polaroid from going completely under is weddings!

he might not admit it, but jeff was all choked up when he saw kyla coming down the aisle.

the bridal party...shot against our favorite combo...a parking garage and a bathroom!!!

how's this for a grand entrance!

i think the music was a bit too loud for this little guy :)

ok time for a shout out to these gorgeous girls! lauren (on the left) was one of our favorite brides from 2005 who has referred us a bunch of weddings. cindy (on the right) was a bridesmaid at john and elise's wedding back in 2004...since then she has been our hugest promoter! she actually referred lauren to us :) not only is she a huge promoter for us, but every wedding she refers she ends up at, so it is always great to see her at weddings.

this is lauren's awesome family...you'll be seeing more of lindsay and phil (on the left) come november...we can't wait for their wedding!

august 25th, 2006 . the turnip rose

about six weeks ago, we had the pleasure of shooting heidi and nathan's wedding up in san francisco and this past saturday we got to see everyone again for her sister's wedding to kevin. margaret and kevin had a beautiful affair on friday at our lady of mount carmel church in newport beach with an awesome reception that followed at the turnip rose. we had a blast with them both, especially since they were so generous in allowing us plenty of time for their "formals"...our favorite time of the day :) the turnip rose is a gorgeous venue and fun was had by all at the reception. the service provided by the catering staff was top notch...even we (the lowly vendors) were treated like royalty!

kevin navigating the tie.

my main man, JC was at the ceremony too.

after the cermony we shot around the church a bit then headed back to the turnip rose where margaret and kevin were greeted with chinese food!

a new angle on the ring shot...

and then a monkey showed up...

AMBUSH!!!

the turnip rose banquet hall has these awesome little LED lights covering the ceiling which makes for an awesome background to shoot dancing against.

i don't know how margaret was wearing her garter but it sure took some concentration from kevin to get it off :)

the norris wedding

august 19th, 2006 . coronado beach / the catamaran resort

you can always tell it will be a fun day when you show up and you see a copy of "the anti bride" sitting on the makeup table :) greg and jessica were a total blast from start to finish! the ceremony was on the sand on coronado beach with perfect weather and big blue skies. it's always fun (and tiring!) to shoot on the sand barefoot :) after the ceremony we headed back to the catamaran where we were pleasantly surprised to find a pretty cool parking garage at the catamaran to shoot in.

the girls looking at a scrapbook that they all put together for jessica.

jessica and her mom took a vintage rolls over to the beach together.

check out greg rocking his bob marley socks...jessica was really excited about that ;)

so i think this is how i know when i am too close shooting with the fisheye...when i almost get kicked in the face! for those of you reading who aren't photographers...basically jessica's feet were about 4 inches from my face for this shot!
