So, what is in the "rec.arts.tv FAQ"? Well, there are two primary
sections - the other section aside from this one is:
- The rec.arts.tv FAQL -
which lists out and attempts to answer the twenty-five or so
of the most common questions asked by, or relevant to,
the readers of the usenet newsgroup,
rec.arts.tv, and
more generally to all TV viewers. This summaries Part 1
of the posted
text
version of the rec.arts.tv FAQ.
This page is the introduction to The Internet
Resources for rec.arts.tv. The
first part of this rec.arts.tv-related web site is the
TV Commentary section.
For the present TV season, this
TV Commentary page will
include (among other things):
| |
The 2006-2007 TV Season:
|
|
The TV Shows Status
List:
'06-'07 Shows
(NEW! last updated: 12/15/06)
The "TV Shows Status List" (for
the 2006-2007 TV season) keeps track of the status of
the various shows of the present TV season, including
a list of those TV
shows that have been cancelled,
put on hiatus or
moved, as well as a list of the new
mid-season replacement shows.
(Note: This list can also be reached through the
FAQL Page.)

The remainder of this rec.arts.tv FAQ Intro page catalogues many of the important
Web sites devoted to TV and TV shows (i.e. Part 2 of the text version of this FAQ),
and all the TV newsgroups (i.e. Part 3 of the text version FAQ). It also lists
a couple of the (known) FTP sites for TV resources. More on this
below.

The World-Wide Web (WWW) for TV: |
- Main TV WWW Sites:
- Main TV News Sites
(e.g. TV.Zap2It, Futon Critic, etc.)
- TV Schedules WWW Sites
(e.g. TV Guide, Titan TV, etc.)
- The Main TV
Episode Guide, 'Spoiler'
& Review Sites
(e.g. EpGuides/TVTome, TWoP, etc.)
- General TV Info Sites
(e.g. Internet Movie Database, Yahoo TV index, etc.)
- TV-centric (Print) Publication Sites
(e.g. Variety, THR, B&C, EW, etc.)
- TV Organization Sites
(e.g. The Emmys (ATAS), FCC.gov, Nielsen, etc.)
- Other Main TV websites
(e.g. sites for Classic TV, TV themes, etc.)
|
|
|
- RATTY Awards Archive (to be added)
- "Current" U.S. TV Show Internet Resources:
- NOTE: These resource pages have basically
been dropped - I need to research to see if there are
resources for this on the web. For now, I'm leaving the Soap page,
as it may still be good.
- Daytime Soap-Operas
- "Classic" U.S. TV Show Internet Resources
- I've officially dumped this section. Sorry.

|
Note: This site no longer tracks TV-related Mailing Lists. |
It should be noted that this FAQ is not really the "official" FAQ for rec.arts.tv
(is there ever an "official FAQ"?!); one of these days, I may submit the FAQ to
news.answers for official FAQ status, but we will see...
This page is a jump point to the known Television Internet Resources;
it attempts to list as many (general) Internet TV Resources as are known by the author.
As stated above, the WWW version of the rec.arts.tv FAQ combines together
the three separate lists contained in the text version of the FAQ to create
a comprehensive set of lists of Internet Resources for Television.
But is this site better than, say,
"The Zap2it.com TV Shows Section"
or "Yahoo"? Well,
this site is a little different, and is here for a slightly different purpose,
than those sites. For one thing, the aforementioned sites tend to be indexes
for resources for individual TV shows, while I'm attempting to keep
this site as an index of more general TV sites.
Also, this is the only site where you'll find a FAQL
(i.e. "Frequently Asked Questions List") for TV, which answers many common questions
asked by fans of TV in rec.arts.tv and by regular TV viewers (e.g. "What is 'Digital' TV?",
"How do Nielsen ratings work?", etc.). There seems to be nothing like the FAQL
at such TV "WWW Index" sites as TV Zap2it.com or
Yahoo.
In addition, unlike many "WWW Index" sites, the TV Internet Resources listed
here are not a user-maintained archive (though users are welcome to
E-mail me with suggestions, additions and
corrections). This means I personally choose which sites appear here, and
I (alone) try to keep this archive as up-to-date and accurate
as possible. (Of course, owner maintenance itself has pluses and minuses
associated with it, but that's another story...) Also sites such as
Yahoo and
TV Zap2it.com can take many weeks
or even months! before they are updated.
Another advantage of this rec.arts.tv FAQ site is the straight-forward
organization of the TV data and URLs presented here. I have kept the
overall look of this site very simple
(i.e. no time-consuming graphics to download), and have made every
attempt to keep document sizes under 25K in length. The result is a
site that should be easy
to navigate and fast to use (unlike, say,
The
Zap2it.com TV Shows Section which,
in the more distant past, was very slow and cumbersome to use).
On the other hand, it is impossible for every site (including this one)
to list every TV related URL, so it's best to use this site in concert with
some of the other TV web sites (many listed below), to help you find all
the known Internet Resources for TV shows.
And how often will this site be updated?
I try to update the rec.arts.tv FAQ as often as I can, but this site is a
hobby of mine, and it's often not possible to update this site as often as
I would like. However, some sections, like the "TV
Shows Status" page, are updated much more frequently (I try
to update the TV Shows Status weekly).
