SUMMER 2006 - Week #10: What's New This Week?

Note: Again, this listing is probably only going for one or two more weeks...
And, if I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to add to this! - Additions/corrections are welcome.

Also, don't forget, it's often easier to see this kind of thing in grid form, so go to - my Summer 2006 Schedule Grid page, or The Futon Critic's Summer 2006 Schedule Grid.

So, what's up this week? ABC premieres the reality sudser "One Ocean View" on Monday, July 31 at 10pm, and BBC-America premieres its new series "Love Soup" on Tuesday, August 1 at 10pm. And, as far as I can tell, that's all.

(Note: It's possible that ABC may burn-off more episodes of either "Rodney" and/or "Less Than Perfect" from 9-10pm on Tuesday, Aug. 1...)

(Meanwhile, NBC has apparently relented - an unaired episode of "E-RING" is no longer scheduled for Saturday, August 5. Surprise, surprise...)

Meanwhile, we continue to get the season finales of Summer series - this week is the "season finale" of BBC-America's "Hex" on Thursday (sorry for last week's confusion - this week is apparently the actual season finale). And TNT's limited "Nightmares & Dreamscapes" wraps up this week, as well.

And that's pretty much it. Which is why this listing is only going for another week, or two...

Next week? ABC Family premieres the fantasy sudser "Three Moons Over Milford" on Sunday, August 6 at 8pm. And that appears to be it.
(Note: The WB will start burning-off some of the unaired episodes of "Just Legal", at 7pm starting Sunday, August 6.)

SUMMER 2006 - Week #9: What's New This Week?

Note: Again, this listing is probably only going for a few more weeks. So expect only one or two more editions of this listing...

Pretty much only BBC-America's "Life on Mars" on Monday at 10pm, along with the ABC Family premiere of its new TV movie "Fallen" tonight (i.e. Sunday night) at 8pm.
(Also, syndicated reruns of "Night Stalker", ultimately including 4 unaired episodes, will premiere on the Sci-Fi channel on Friday nights before "The Gates", on July 28.)

Meanwhile, we are starting to get the season finales of Summer series - first up (if BBC-A's advertising is to be believed!) is the "season finale" of BBC-America's "Hex" on Thursday, followed by the season finale of The N's new "Beyond the Break" series on Friday.

And that's pretty much it. Which is why this listing is only going for another week, or two...

SUMMER 2006 - Week #8: What's New This Week?

Note: So, how many more weeks can I be expected to post this? Probably only a couple more - by mid-August-ish, new "summer" shows will no longer be premiering, and instead (early) Fall shows (esp. on FOX) will start premiering. So expect only a couple more editions of this listing...
And, if I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to add to this! - Additions/corrections are welcome.
(Cross-posted to rec.arts.tv - here.)

Also, don't forget, it's often easier to see this kind of thing in grid form, so go to - my Summer 2006 Schedule Grid page, or The Futon Critic's Summer 2006 Schedule Grid.

So, what's up this week? Tonight, the Sunday edition of CBS's "Big Brother [7]: All-Stars" premieres, as does Lifetime's new FBI procedural "Angela's Eyes".

Later, in the "I Really Hate This Scheduling" Department, Sci-Fi's new drama "Eureka" premieres Tuesday at 9pm, exactly opposite CBS's 'performance' edition of "Rock Star: Supernova" (this really sucks, as I want to watch both - looks like Eureka may get the VCR treatment...). (Also, syndicated reruns of "Dead Like Me" will premiere on the Sci-Fi channel on Tuesday before "Eureka".)

Finally, ABC's new reality competition "The One: Making of a Music Star" premieres (on Tues. & Wed.).

So, what's up next week? The premiere of ABC Family's [TV movie(?) limited series(?)] "Fallen", and the return of ABC's "Night Stalker" to Sci-Fi channel (on Friday, July 28). And that's pretty much it. Hence, the coming wind-down of this listing.
(Apparently, the following week, NBC will start burning-off some of the unaired episodes of "E-Ring", starting Saturday, August 5.)

And, if I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to let me know!

Things are starting to get a little quieter this week - four new shows premiere: ABC Family's "Kyle XY" (which ABC itself is rebroadcasting on Friday at 9pm), Spike TV's "Blade", FX's "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", and The N's "Whistler".

Next Sunday's edition will be relatively dead too - only CBS's "Rock Star" & "Big Brother [7]: All-Stars", and USA's "Monk" & "Psych" premiere next week.

Meanwhile, as has already been announced, CBS has pulled "Tuesday Night Book Club" from the schedule - I do not expect it to ever air again.

Also, it would appear that ABC has pulled its 'burn-off' of "Rodney" and "Less Than Perfect" from its schedule - no announcement on when (or if) they might return.

SUMMER 2006 - Week #4: What's New This Week?

Note: I'm not promising to do this every week of Summer. Let's just see how it goes...
And, if I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to let me know!

The big news this week?! - The premiere of season #4.5 of USA's "The Dead Zone" tonight (Sunday night) at 10pm, natch!

Beyond that, several reality shows also premiere this week - NBC's "Treasure Hunters" & "America's Got Talent", and ABC's "Master of Champions" (maybe! depends on the NBA! - see below).

Also, big NOTE: There is a 1-time-only viewer special of CBS's "Big Brother [7]" on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22 at 8pm - "BIG BROTHER 7: ALL-STARS: AMERICA'S VOTE".
This is the special where the list of 20 previous contestants will get whittled down to just 12, based on call-in voting.
(No thanks, CBS - I liked it better when we got to vote out who was in the house. Voting people in seems much less interesting to me...)

Next Sunday's edition will give us the series/season premieres of ABC Family's "Kyle XY", TNT's new "Blade" series, FX's "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", and The N's "Whistler" (which I'm sort of looking forward to...).

SUMMER 2006 - Week #3: What's New This Week?

(Whoops! Meant to post this yesterday! Also, I'm hoping to do some TV news updates I've been putting off, later in the week - but you know how busy Finals Week gets!!)

Note: I'm not promising to do this every week of Summer. Let's just see how it goes... (And, if I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to let me know! See also: The Summer 2006 TV Series page and the Summer 2006 Schedule Grid page. Cross-posted to rec.arts.tv - here.)

With "Everwood" and "Degrassi:TNG" both having finished their seasons last week, and "Commander-in-Chief" poised to do so this week, I think we can safely say that we have left the "regular" season behind, and are now embarking on the true "Summer" season starting this week - in Week #3.

Indeed, a number of "new" Summer shows premiere this week, including USA's "The 4400" Sunday night, a trifecta of new shows on HBO (including "Deadwood") also on Sunday night, two TNT dramas (e.g. "The Closer") Monday night, and a couple "reality" programs on 'The Big Three' early in the week.

Next Sunday's edition will give us the season premiere of USA's "The Dead Zone" (YAY!), and some more 'reality' series on 'The Big Three'.

9:00pm FALCON BEACH (ABC FAM.)
10:00pm HOW TO GET THE GUY (ABC) {series premiere}
11:00pm LOVESPRING INTERNATIONAL (LIFE)

9:00pm THE CLOSER (TNT) {season premiere}
10:00pm SAVED (TNT) {series premiere}

TUESDAY (06/12):

Continuing on from last week's edition, this week of Summer - Week #2 - is marked most by the (true) season finale of 'guilty pleasure' "Degrassi:TNG" on The N, the series finale of "Everwood" on The WB, and the premiere of three new scripted summer series (finally!) - "Hex" on BBC-America, "Windfall" on NBC, and (starting Sunday (i.e. today) & Monday) "Falcon Beach" on ABC Family.

The Upfronts: 2006

In case people are wondering, the so-called "Upfronts", when the broadcast networks announce their new Fall schedules are up, this coming week (starting on Monday, May 15), in the following network order:

May 15: NBC
May 16: ABC
May 17: CBS
May 18: FOX & CWN (still no website yet!)

I'm already working up the early rumors (various factors have prevented me from covering those this year), so I should be able to manage same day/same evening analysis of the released schedules (e.g. what was cancelled, what pilot projects were picked up, etc.).

So, see you all next week!

Summer Series 2006 Pages

Preliminary versions of my Summer 2006 TV Series and my Summer Series 2006 Schedule Grid pages are now online.

I expect both pages will get more entries soon enough.

For example, ABC has made no official announcements about its Summer 2006 plans yet. And neither has cable network Lifetime.

So keep an eye on these pages, as more networks firm up (and/or revise!) their Summer 2006 schedules...

My TV Shows Status Page Updated - 04/18/06

In anticipation of the coming onslaught of TV news around the time of the broadcast networks' "Upfronts" in May, I've taken the liberty of (finally!) updating my TV Shows Status Page for the '05-'06 TV season.

Most recent developments seem to concern the high failure rates for this year's crop of broadcast net 'Mid-Season' shows - a number of them have stopped/finished airing over the past couple of weeks, and I can't say any of those look likely to make a return trip this Fall.

So far, about the only Mid-Season shows that seem to have a future in them are CBS's The Unit and The New Adventures of Old Christine.

Beyond that, things look pretty bleak for this year's Mid-Season crew...

P.S. ABC's Less Than Perfect returns to the air tonight; ABC's Alias & Invasion return tomorrow night. (And I think that's the last of the Mid-Season returnees...)

P.P.S. I'm going to start working on my Summer 2006 pages very soon...

SAVED BY THE BELL Comes to iTunes!!

And, finally, I couldn't help but notice that the NBC section of Apple's iTunes Music Store has added the 20 episodes of Saved by the Bell's first season (e.g. go here for the list). (Seasons #2-4 to come... later?...)

Ian's advice: The best episode of season #1 is "The Zack Tapes". So if you're going to download any episode, get that one.

Anyway, I just found the development amusing... ;)

REUNION Redux: Final Chapter

Once FOX's continuing mystery/drama Reunion was cancelled back in December (see my Nov. 29 & Dec. 21 entries), with four filmed episodes left unaired, it looked like most of us would never find out who murdered Samantha Carlton (Brewster), even if the series was eventually released on DVD with episodes #10-13 in tact.

Well, now two sources give us info on the four unaired episodes, and the (probable?) identity of the Sam's murder.

First, a Dec. 16th blog entry at Live Journal contains pretty complete Spoilers for the four unaired episodes of Reunion, "1995" thru "1998".

Then, this past week, at FOX's presentation to the TV Critics Association, FOX Entertainment President Peter Ligouri revealed the (probable) identity of Sam's killer (for that Spoiler - go here). But it sounds like the killer's identity wasn't firmed up even while episode #13 was being filmed, and might have been changed before series' end.

And that, as we say, is "that" for Reunion. At least until the DVD comes out... ;)
