The Nanny:

The History of the Show:

Last updated: December 21, 2003.

The Nanny is a comedy produced by Fran Drescher. The show was created by Fran Drescher, and her husband (at the time) Peter Marc Jacobson. The Nanny premiered in November 1993, as a late addition to CBS's fall lineup. The show was first aired on Wednesday nights at 8:00 pm.It is about the comical adventures of Fran Fine, the Sheffield household and the Fine family, after Fran Fine takes the job as the Sheffield's nanny. It had the following cast:

 The Players:

The Nanny: Fran Fine -Fran Drescher
   Maxwell Sheffield -Charles Shaughnessy
   Niles -Daniel Davis
   C.C. Babcock -Lauren Lane
   Maggie Sheffield -Nicholle Tom
   Brighton Sheffield -Benjamin Salisbury
   Grace Sheffield -Madeline Zima

 The Semi-Regulars:

   Mrs. Sylvia Fine,
     Fran's Mom -Renee Taylor
   Val Toriello,
     Fran's best friend -Rachel Chagall
   Grandma Yetta -Ann Guilbert

It remained on Wednesdays throughout most of the rest of its first season slowly building its audience; it was also tried out on Monday night twice that season, including with its season finale in May.

The show really took off in the summer of 1994 when it was rerun all summer in the Monday at 8:00 pm timeslot. The show was then renewed for Mondays at 8:00 pm, where it ran through its 3rd season. It was one of CBS's highest rated shows in this Monday timeslot.

For the Fall of 1996, CBS moved The Nanny from Monday at 8:00 pm to the show's new (actually, old) timeslot: Wednesdays, 8:00 pm. The change in schedule took place with the show's premiere on September 18, 1996. Encouragingly for CBS, The Nanny did quite well in that timeslot for the network, and has helped turn around CBS's fortunes. The Nanny began its 6th (and last) season on September 30, 1998; it remained in its Wednesday at 8:00 pm timeslot for most of the season, before moving to 8:30 pm in the spring of 1999 (airing after the short-lived John Larroquette sitcom Payne).

The series finale of The Nanny aired on May 12, 1999. Because they hadn't been shown in March and April as scheduled (The Nanny was on hiatus), CBS showed the final 6 unaired season #6 episodes in June, 1999. The last first run episodes of The Nanny aired on June 23, 1999. This was then the end of The Nanny's long 6-year run...
