1.1: "The First Gig"

The band's first playing gig, for a girl named Randi Jo that Matt has a crush on, falls on the same day that Mr. Garrison is taking the family on a trip to the Grand Canyon. So the band has to pull a scam (as "Van Halen"!) to get the date of the tickets switched. Meanwhile the band is reluctant to take on Sly as their manager. Matt Garrison's and his sister Jenny's band, which is made up of their friends Tony and Tiffani, and their (later) manager Sly, are introduced; setting: Pacific Coast High School, Redondo Beach, CA.

1.2: "Battle of the Bands"

When there's a "Battle of the Bands" contest, Matt is determined to beat the band's arch-rival, "Bradley and the Billionaires", even if that includes following Sly's plan of getting Matt to date a judge (Holly Fields) who likes him. Meanwhile, Tony wants to get his ear pierced, until Tiffani scares him by telling him what's involved.

1.3: "Beat of His Own Dream"

Tony's football coaching father does not approve of Tony's being in the band, so Tony gives up on drumming and the Dreams to play football in the hopes of gaining his father's respect. Meanwhile, Tiffani has a secret admirer that may or may not be Dennis Garrison.

1.4: "Double Date"

Tony is left in charge of Sharkey's (while Sharkey is on vacation), and Sly talks him into throwing a luau (which, of course, they will charge cover for), and books the band at the gig. The problem? Matt has agreed to have the band play at the wedding reception of Randi Jo's sister and her fiance, Debbie and Paul, which is on the same night as the luau. And neither Tony nor Matt are in a position to cancel, after Sly spends Sharkey's money on promotion for the luau, and Matt promises Randi Jo that the band will play here sister's reception.

Sly and Tony overhear that Jenny and Tiffani (and two of their friends) are having a slumbr party at the Garrisons, and so they come right over! Sly easedrops on the proceedings and hears Jenny's description of her "dream man", so Sly overhauls his personality to match. Meanwhile Tony tries (futilely) to pick up on Jenny's friend Jasmine. And Tiffani writes some lyrics for a song of Matt's, but Matt doesn't have the heart to tell her that they're terrible.

1.6: "Friends First"

Matt's (formerly fat) friend Teddy (Bryan Dattilo), whom Matt met in music camp, comes to visit, and both Tiffani and Jenny are attracted to him, causing their friendship to fray. So Matt has to show the girls that their friendship is more important than the gorgeous guy they're fighting over. Meanwhile, Sly convinces Sharkey to give the Dreams a try-out at his restaurant, while Tony refuses to write down his orders which may imperil his job with Sharkey.

1.7: "Guess Who's Coming to Brunch"

After a gig at Sharkey's (in which the gang's amp blows out) Tony starts dating a rich girl named Kimberly (Brooke Langton), so he meets her parents at a brunch. But when Kimberly is out of the room, her father makes Tony an offer: he'll buy the band a new amp, if Tony will stop dating his daughter. So Tony must figure out a way to tell Kimberly about her dad's prejudice. Meanwhile, Sly gets the band to do an ad jingle for "Uncle Slappy's Root Beer" (which is terrible) to earn money for a new amp.

1.8: "It's a Guy Thing"

The girls are determined to demonstrate just how shallow Sly and Tony are, so they create a plan (a fictious supermodel from Paris, named "Monique"), but the plan backfires, then rebounds. Meanhwile, the Garrison men are determined to avoid a repairman, and try to repair a broken washing machine themselves.

1.9: "Mother and Child Reunion"

Tiffani's Mom (Pamela Bowen) returns from a 10 years of pursuing a dancing career in NY, and Tiffani's anger at her mother comes out at her Sweet 16.

1.10: "Romancing the Tube"

Figuring that surfing is a good way to get babes, Sly decides he wants to learn how to surf, so Tiffani decides to teach him. But, soon enough, Sly and Tiffani begin to discover that they like each other; but can Sly stay committed? Meanwhile, Matt, Tony and Jenny are determined to get the band a new lighting system, so they agree to paint some rooms in the Garrision house for Mrs. Garrison, in return for the $300 (up front) that they need to pay for the system.

1.11: "They Shoot Videos, Don't They?"

Sly wants the band to enter a video contest; his concept? the band gets chased around by groupies until the "head groupie/bimbo", Nikki Dentine, kisses Matt at the end of the video. But that concept doesn't sit well with Matt's girlfriend, Randi Jo (Brittney Powell). When Sly tricks Matt into doing it anyway, the kiss causes Randi Jo to breakup with Matt, with the result being a new (sad) song for Matt, and a new video idea for Sly.

1.12: "The Time"

Jenny's self-centered old boyfriend, an actor named Eric, comes back into her life and monopolizes her time, to the band's chagrin. Meanwhile, Sly buys a van for the group that breaks down in the Garrisons' garage.

1.13: "Where's Dennis"

The band performs at their house while the Garrison parents are away and Matt is supposed to be watching Dennis, but disaster strikes when Dennis turns up missing.
