Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Families,

The Shrewsbury Public Schools, in partnership with the Shrewsbury Public Library, will once again offer a special reading opportunity for students entering grades K-6. This popular program, in its ninth year, attracted more than four hundred fifty children last summer!

Adult volunteers will lead a discussion or creative activity based on each book from the new Summer Reading Booklist. Enrollment is limited and determined on a first come, first served basis. Preregistration is required, using any one of the following methods.

You may:
•Complete the form your child brought home and return it to the school office
•Leave a voice mail message for Summer R.E.C.E.S.S. at 508-841-8300, X1687
•Visit the Childrens Room at the Shrewsbury Public Library and speak to the librarian
•Call the Childrens Room at the library at 508-842-0081, X4 and leave a message

All sessions will meet at the Shrewsbury Public Library in the second floor meeting rooms. Please encourage your child to bring a copy of the book if available. The schedule of morning, afternoon, and evening sessions is included on this web site. Please note that the Shrewsbury Public Library will be closed on Saturdays during the summer. Participation is limited to students enrolled in each respective grade level.

During the session children are expected to behave appropriately. If you think your child may have a difficult time sitting quietly and focusing, please plan to stay and assist. An adult will need to escort all children attending the kindergarten sessions. It is important to arrive and depart promptly because there will be no before or after session supervision. It is requested that participants be respectful of the other patrons in the library, and use inside voices. The Circulation Desk and main doorway need to be accessible to other patrons during this time too. As always, please consider carpooling, biking or walking with your child since parking is limited.

Summer reading books will be available at the Shrewsbury Public Library Children's Room and local bookstores. Sixth grade summer reading materials are located in the Young Adult Room. If your child is in fourth, fifth or sixth grade, we suggest reading the first chapter of the book before attending the session. Thank you for your continued support of the Summer R.E.C.E.S.S. program!

Sincerely,
Kristine Gustafson and Rosemary Royer
