昨日の AFV (America's funniest videos) で学んだ expression を一つ御紹介します。スカイダイビングに挑んだおばあさん。降下中にカメラに向かってニッコリ微笑んだ瞬間、差し歯が上方へ飛んで行きました。びっくりしたおばあさん、手で口を押さえますが、時既に遅し。差し歯は遥か上方へ。ここで司会者が一言。"What she is doing now is closing the barn door after the horse has escaped." 「時既に遅し (It's too late)」は、「馬が外に出た後で納屋の扉を閉める」と表現するのですね〜。なかなか言い得て妙ですね。
