読者のduaneさんから、 海賊版をbootlegというと教えて頂きました。盗品・戦利品を booty というと御紹介しましたが、bootleg もこれに関係しているのか調べてみました。"Ask Yahoo! " に同じ疑問を持った方が、"What is the origin of the term "bootleg"? という投稿をしていました。Ask Yahoo! からの回答です。"A bootleg refers to the long leather boots worn by cowboys in the Old West. They were used to store all manner of illicit (違法の) goods, including an extra gun, a bowie knife, or a flask of moonshine (密造酒). It's now used to refer to anything illegal, unauthorized, and unregulated, like concert recordings." なるほど。カーボーイは bootleg (長靴の胴）に違法の銃やナイフ、密造酒を隠していたんですね。そこから違法のものを bootleg (海賊版) と呼ぶようになったんですね〜。一方戦利品のbooty のetymology (語源) は中世フランスのbutinという言葉だそうで、booty と bootleg は関連していませんでしたが、勉強になりました :-)
