You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar : 甘い言葉の方が辛辣な言葉より多くの成果が得られる

今日は Pooch Cafeから。海にやって来たPonchoとお友達のBoomer。BoomerはPonchoの飼い主の奥さんに "You sure look pretty in that skirt, Mrs. Palmer!" と彼女のスカートを褒めて doggie treat (犬用の御馳走) を貰いました。Ponchoも doggy treat が欲しくて、"Gimme (=give me) a treat too!" と言いますが、奥さんに "Poncho, You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. (蜂蜜の方が酢より蠅をたくさん捕まえられる)" と言われてしまいます（Ponchoは奥さんに嫌がらせばかりしています)。これは英語の表現らしく、「甘い言葉の方が辛辣な言葉より多くの成果が得られる」という意味だそうです。でもこの表現を真に受けたPonchoは、"Wouldn't it be better to say, "You can catch more fries with corpse (死体) than you can with..." ここで聞いていられなくなった奥さんが、Ponchoを止めさせるために "Here eat" とdoggy treat をPonchoにあげて黙らせました。今回もPonchoの勝ちですね ;-)
