hold your peace = maintain your silence: 黙っておいて
object [他動] 反対する、異議を唱える
研究室のコンピューターを管理しているtechnicianのおばさんからの e-mail (XXのe-mail address を消しちゃうとこだよ) はさらに続けて、「If anyone wants to object, speak now or forever hold your peace. (異議を唱えるなら今よ！今異議を唱えないなら永遠に黙っておいてね。)」と。hold your peace は maintain your silence (沈黙を保つ) という意味で、"speak now or forever hold your peace" というフレーズで使われる事が多いようです。どうやらこのフレーズは wedding ceremony でのお決まりのフレーズだったようです。でも最近 では "Most wedding officiators, at the request of engaged couples, cut this phrase out of the wedding ceremony" とのことで、このフレーズをcut するカップルも多いようです。結婚式で「異議を唱えるなら今よ！」ってお見合い結婚や政略結婚が common だった数世紀前ならいざ知らず、恋愛結婚が主な現代に似つかわしくないですもんね。
