Two great Tamil Temple towns
Triuchirapalli (Trichy) known for the Rock Fort and the Ranganathaswamy Temple. Thanjavur (Tanjore) - the Brihadishwara Temple and a nice palace.

Brihadishwara Temple in Thanjavur is unpainted sandstone with fine carvings
