Bio 

Les has over 25 years experience in lead technical and management roles in which he has demonstrated his ability to find innovative, effective solutions to complex problems. He has formed, mentored, and led effective, efficient teams and processes.

Les has played a key role in enterprise applications for scheduling, inventory, marketing, and customer relations. He has experience in diverse Industries including Telecommunications, Travel and Leisure, Broadcasting, Aerospace, and Pharmaceuticals.

For Globus and Cosmos, an international leisure travel company, Les was a lead in an enterprise wide reengineering initiative. He refocussed a 2 year old effort and delivered analysis in 4 months. He went on to assist the CEO and executive team to create and communicate the vision.

For Turner Broadcasting, he reorganized a system critical project and met an aggressive schedule. The system exceeded performance (hrs vs. days) and quality goals ( 99.9 % vs. 95%). He received praise from the Executive VP.

For MCI, Les built a generic report engine that eliminated the need of previously planned software. This reduced development and operations costs with segmented architecture that combines custom and commercial products into a flexible framework scalable to terabytes.

His government experience includes lunar and mars exploration, Space Shuttle navigation, and advanced space initiatives. He played a key technical management role in planning, organizing, and leading the Planet Surface Systems Office into high profile, nationwide team of several hundred. He supported White House presentations and received achievement awards. He led and integrated efforts into a coherent architectures and scenarios. Functional areas included habitation, power generation, surface transportation, space transportation, communications, resource plants, science systems, construction, operations and logistics.

Les was a key member of a NASA interagency working group that integrated and synthesized standards and practices into a tailorable, end-to-end framework. He was the Technical Lead for the life cycle model NASA adopted as agency-wide guideline.

Les' early career focussed on space navigation. His analyses defined procedures that avoided potential mission scrubs and eliminated the need for expensive man rated software. He developed the relative navigation system used for all the early rendezvous missions of the Shuttle. He received commendations for his direction of the verification of the real-time navigation system. His pioneering effort in Object Oriented and Component software were adopted by other teams.

Les has authored numerous publications and presentations. These include NASA Systems Engineering Process for Programs and Projects, JSC-49040, and "The Application of Open System Architecture to Planetary Surface Systems," in Engineering, Construction, and Operations in Space III, and "Space Exploration Initiative Planet Surface Systems Computation Needs," NASA Automation & Robotics Workshop, Ames Research Center.

Les graduated with a BS summa cum laude, Honors Program in Mathematics. He has graduate degrees in Mathematics from University of California Berkeley. His specialties were Global Analysis and Dynamical Systems.

Les was the founding president of the University of Houston Honors Alumni Association and was president of the University of California Mathematics Graduate Students Association.
