Gedanken: Scenario 2 (@node 2)
Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2001 08:48:04 PDT[[ooc]] By the discussions between the characters, it seems clear that the party is ready to move on. This post moves the game on. I'll post a Scenario 1 summary, soon.
How about naming your party?
[[Gedanken GM]] The party of adventurers files through door #2. When the door is shut behind them, the scene around them dissolves.
In a moment, they find themselves on a platform on the top of a rocky promontory in the middle of a tiny tropical island. The platform is a flat circle of concrete with a red door standing in its center. The door is marked with the number 1 and a symbol of a circle of trees. A level stone path leads straight to a small building.
The building is a circular Roman Classical gazebo made of white granite. The roof of the gazebo is supported by slender Ionic columns with small stone benches between them. The path ends at an opening between two of the columns. Two other openings, evenly spaced around the gazebo, lead to two other paths which lead to platforms such as the one with the red door. These platforms each have a door as well, but the doors are blue. One is numbered 3 and the other is numbered 4.
In the center of the gazebo is a table of blue marble rising on a short Ionic column nearly waist high to an adult human. The table top is a flat circle about two arm-lengths wide. The smooth edge of the table is broken at one point by a small raised square about as wide as a hand. In the center of the square is a circular indentation with the ENCOM rune embossed into its center. The skies are clear, the breeze balmy. The time-conscious Serena sees that the sun is about in the same position as it was in the clearing. It is still morning. The height of the sun is the same, too. By noon, she should be able to make a good guess how long it will be until sunset.
You may:
-Go through doors 1, 3, or 4.
-Investigate the table.[I had labelled these posts as being in node 3, but the gazebo is in node 2. The original titles of the posts others used also said node 3. I have changed them below to make reading easier. Editor]

Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2001 09:13:52 PDT[[Paddy, earlier]] Unless there's a reply from Ryone, Paddy nods in Nitro's direction, momentarily emboldened by the Warrior's vote of confidence, and smiles broadly to the others-as broad as a magically challenged Leprechaun can. "To the next event, shall we?"
He skitters for the second (blue) doorway, then stops abruptly and turns about, regaining his senses. "Who'm I to lead this gallant lot? Serena of the Curved Blade! After you, lassie!"
[[Paddy, currently]] When they enter the new scene through door #2, Paddy revels in the beautiful surroundings. It's almost idyllic enough to elicit a limerick from our little dude. Almost.
Once in the gazebo, he seems interested in the central table atop a column too tall for him to see the tabletop. "Laddy, a lift for Paddy?" he queries of Nitro. "Methinks the table deserves a closer look-see."
Once he gets a view, he'll compare the size of the indentation in the square atop the table atop the column with Nitro's disk and suggest he (or someone else) place it in the indentation, if it fits.

[[Gedanken GM]] Assuming Nitro actually lets Paddy examine the disk, Paddy discovers that the indentation seems made to accept the token.

Sorry but I'm dropping out of the Gedanken Game due to lack of time. I'm there but I'm not posting so I shouldn't be there. Feel free to NPC me or kill me off. Best wishes and best of luck to all.

Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2001 10:45:42 PDTNow that's bad news. :-( You were a good player, and Serena made a good leader. The team will have to come up with another one. I do hope you will post once more during comment time on Scenario 1.
That leaves a blank spot, now. If anyone wants to join, email me at hutcherl@mac.com. I'll want a rogue to replace Serena.
[[Gedanken GM]] A disc of light appears on one of the platforms, extends to become a cylinder, and the form of a human starts to take shape inside. The light fades and Flynn appears. He approaches Serena with a grave look on his face and explains that something has gone wrong and that she must leave. Before she can ask any questions, the two are gone (in the same fashion that Flynn appeared in).
Serena appears back on the platform in the laboratory with all her gear. Her mind is very cloudy, as if waking from a long dream. Flynn explains that something was wrong and that she had to be retrieved but that the others are in no danger. Serena returns to the surface with some of the experience coming back to her.
[[ooc]] Serena, your character leaves with 70 e.p. plus $50 in US currency. If she were to find the right collector in Khazan, that money would be worth ten times that in g.p., otherwise it is worthless.
You may rejoin at any time, even if it exceeds the 6-character limit.

No, she was too pushy- hence Nitro revoking his vote for her.

Nitro's vote is still with our just and wise leader, Paddy, who can do no wrong.

Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2001 20:31:16 PDT[[ooc]] Since the players are rolling the combat dice, it really expands individual combat events. Therefore, in order to keep up the pace, I'm not always going to wait for all players to respond before making a GM post. For the most part, it's first-come first-served when it comes to player actions. I'll interpret the characters' intentions when needed, such as in this post...
[[Gedanken GM]] Paddy takes the red token from Nitro's hand and places it into the receptacle on the edge of the table. The token glows, then derezzes just like the gridbugs did. That's rightit's gone.
..But not completely. Like the patterns in the gridbugs disappeared into their surrounding environment, the patterns in the token flow into the table. However, instead of fading away, the patterns (power? life?) do not altogether vanish. The tabletop begins to shimmer with a bright blue glow.
Now what do you do?
You may do any or all of the above, though the order is important.
- Place something on the tabletop.
- Touch the tabletop.
- Exit through one of the doors.
- Exchange information, talk, sing, whatever.

Ryone's Detect Magic spell reveals there is power in the table. He cannot sense any good or evil intent, but the power field feels beneficial in some way.[[ooc]] Sorryforgot about your DM spell.
[[icn]] Ryone is bathed in blue lights and surrounded by a tinkling sound. A tingling sensation moves from his finger up his arm and into his body. After a few seconds, the tingling and sounds have faded and the lights have gone, having seemingly been absorbed into his skin. As the power enters him, it seems to him that weakness pulls it in. When it is done, he feels fully restored and invigoratedhis strength (or Mystic) is fully restored.
The table is no longer energized.

[[Paddy, earlier]] The Leprechaun bows respectfully at the Wizard's offer. "Alas, I sold me cobbler's kit for passage to Khazan! If, however a goodly bit of leather thread or other sinew, and some sort of awl is forthcoming, I could ply me trade on the husks and see what comes of it. I envision a buckler, or perhaps some greaves, or a chest plate."
[[Paddy, currently]] "Blarney!" he sighs as Serena disappears. "Blarney!" he laments as their precious disk vanishes into the table. "Easy come, easy go. I guess we shall have to outlive the sun after allunless there are more than the required 5 disks to be found hereand with one less fair lass to protect us. You were positively glowing, Ryone. Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 13:54:53 PDT[[Gedanken GM]] This leaves little else to do but to go through one of the three doors. I suspect that Charlie is already waiting for the others by a door. I think Paddy is the current leader, so I leave it up to Jax to work it out with the others as to which door to take.
The doors are:
#1 (red, marked with a circle of trees), #3 (blue), and #4 (blue).

[[Gedanken GM]] Charlie's search reveals nothing obviously useful other than the three gridbug shells clattering behind Paddy (or whoever is carrying them), and even they don't seem too useful at the moment. When she goes through door #3, nothing happensshe just walks through to the other side of the door but remains on the same platform as before.

[[Paddy]] "Aye, Ryone, Charlie is already there. Let's do them in order. Nitro, Wendy, what say ye goodfolk? This place doesn't look like it holds a disk for us. I surmise we all have to pass beyond the lintel for the scene to change."
Just to be on the safe side, Paddy slips a stone into the thong of his sling and gets ready to rock'n'roll.

Wendy crosses her arms, obviously very vexed. "Now what are we supposed to do? We're a token short and can't go back!
Although," she says, suddenly thoughtful. No one said there was only one kind of token. Maybe that one wasn't the right one at all. Which means we might still find all five. Which means we can still win. Which means what are we standing around here for? Someone pick another door and let's go!"

Fine choice. Nitro approves.

However, instead of fading away, the patterns (power? life?) do not altogether vanish. The tabletop begins to shimmer with a bright blue glow. Now what do you do?
Nitro will try to smash the table to make sure it isn't hollow and hiding the token elsewhere. Nitro has lost at the shell game enough to know things aren't always what they seem.
>[[Gedanken GM]] Ryone is bathed in blue lights and surrounded by a tinkling sound.
Nitro will ensure Ryone doesn't have the token hidden in his ear.
>The table is no longer energized.
Nitro will whack it with a club, or try to break it in half with a dead bug if the club fails.
>[[Paddy]] "Blarney!" he sighs as Serena disappears.
ìHer name was Serena, not Barney. Charlie is the one with the guy's name.î

ìThat's easy for the guy who lost the token to say.î

Nitro will not attack the table while Ryone is poking around it. Safety first.

ìHe's not the leader anymore, so he doesn't have the final decision.î

ìAgainst Nitro's better judgment, Nitro votes for Charlie as team leader. She seems to be a woman of action, even if she does have a silly name.î
